Ranger and Sportsman comparison?
#1
Does anybody know the actual power produced by either of these machines?
I have a 00' SP500 that I use for spraying weeds mainly and fun secondly.
I am thinking about changing to a Ranger. The Ranger has the same size motor, but weighs about 400 pounds more!
Does the Ranger get more power from the same motor, or is it like riding a 1200 pound Sportsman?
The terrain I spray is generally smooth however sometimes very hilly. Am I going to have trouble hauling close to 1000 pounds of water and equipment?
Thanks in advance.

Which Ranger? The 4x4 believe it or not is almost as fast as a non-HO sportsman, it's awesome. However it doesn't come with the off-road stability and traction of the 6x6. The 6x6 will go almost anywhere you will steer it, they rule the terrain. Both should have no problem hauling that amount of equipment as long as they are in low range. Both machines have a 1500 lb. tow rating, though we have exceded that and it did fine. If you decide to get one, I personnally would shell out a $1000 more for the 6x6, but drive them both over several types of terrain and choose the one that suits you. You won't be disapointed with them.

The reason I ask about the power, etc is:
Here in South Dakota, I can make it street legal.
What I am wondering about is will I be able to drive very fast?
Say 55 mph? PLUS - I need it to haul a sprayer.
Does anybody actually have one?
I Don't think that I would NEED the 6x6, so I'm thinking more along the lines of the 4x4.
Thanks,

First things first, the Ranger 4x4 MIGHT do 55. It would be awfully close if not. They seem really fast but we haven't topped one out to be sure. However the 6x6 definately will not, they are good for about 35.
As far as the winch there are a couple of ways to acomplish this. The cheapest way is if your dealer is kind enough take the 2000lb kit and swap the mounting hardware kit with the 2500lb kit. The next choice is to purchase the 2500lb kit and then purchase the bracket for the double tube.

4wheelindakota,
have you concidered the sportsman 6X6? the price isn't much more than an H.O., and the stability is terrific even with weight in the dump body.
i owned a 2000 model and hauled all sorts of things. it was even fun going for rides with my friend's 4X4s. you can't do that with a ranger- it's just to wide.
Just a thought...........
