I am looking at buying a new Trail Boss 325. I would be happy with either a 2000 or 2001. What are you guys paying for this machine (a 2000 lists for $3499 and a 2001 lists for $3699)?
Is it worth the $200 for a 2001?
Also, how does getting a 2000 work? Can one dealer get one from another dealer and sell it to me like the car dealers do with cars?

Let me know,

Thanks

Rick

Rick

As for the price, $3699 for a 2001 is a little high. The local dealer is advertising them for around $3,400. As for getting the 2000, I would opt for the 2001. Not sure how they are still selling a new 2000 as they should be clearing out the 2001's for the 2002 models (some are hitting the showroom floors). The 2001 had several improvements on them including better steering system and better braking system and brakes. If you do get one, get a swingarm skid plate for it and have the dealer install it. The extra $100 will save you a ton of headaches with the chain and sprockets. Hope this helps.

Rick,
The price on the 2000 seems a little high this late in the game Now if was January or something I'd say $3499 is a good list. Yep, that $3699 is right on the head for list on a 2001 in these parts. Some dealers may be about $100 lower. But who pays list? And if you do, you make the dealer throw something in free.

Good luck finding a 2000 model this late in the game, and if you do I wouldn't pay $3499 for one. Dependin on the mfg date, the quad could be alomost 2yrs old. I hear it's another few weeks before the 2002's start arriving, so if you're buying now you'll probably end up with a 2001. At the time I got my Boss, the dealer said he could get an out-of-stock machine from the factory in 3 to 5 days. In fact they mentioned that being a high point with selling Polaris, some brands take weeks to replace stock.

As far as improvements, I don't have the same information that Magnum has. In fact I'm gonna call my dealer now to verify this. If Magnum is correct, I certainly would have dropped an extra $200 for a 2001.

I was told that the only differences in the 2000 vs 2001 were the steel brake line leads (these were recalled on the 2000 so you end up getting them free anyway), and a better belt w/limited lifetime belt warranty. My dealer offered to put the improved belt on free if I wanted to buy it for 40 bucks.

Other than those two issues, I don't know of any differences. Also, the parts manuals for the two are identical. I don't know about any changes/differences in the 2002. If your salesman is worth a poot, he/she certainly should be able to help ya there.

Magnum is correct on that skid plate, I really wish I had worked that in with my original purchase. I just ordered one last week for $100, I'm gonna try the installation myself.

Hi,
Anybody know if the brake recalls apply to 2000 Trailblazer and Scrambler 400? I have them both and if I can get the lines replaced that would be awesome. I also have a question about the Trailboss 325. I dont want to **** anyone off but my bud bought a 2001 and he hates it. He also has a Trailblazer and loves Polaris. But I have ridden this 325 and it really is gutless. He took it back and the dealer repleaced the carb and fuel lines, but it didnt really help much. Any ideas? Thanx.

I'm not sure about the recalls on the other models. The recall notificatiuon I received was specifically for the Trail Boss. If you go to the Polaris web site, www.PolarisIndustires.com, there is a recall link I'll bet it will tell ya.

What's your questions about the Trail Boss?

Don't worry, you haven't pissed anyone off, at least not me. The Boss and Blazer are too heavy and slow for some riders liking. However, the Boss is perfect for my riding style.

The recall or "service bulletin" was to replace the oil lines running from the engine to the oil cooler and back. The 2000 models and some 2001 models came with a clamp type hose that was prone to coming off during operation. The 2001 models came with a hydrylic hose type fitting that was a much better design. Polaris fixed all of the models with the bad oil lines for free. As for the brakes, there was no service bulletin for them. The 2001 models (all Polaris) came with braided brake lines, improved master cylinder, and better stock pads. No, Polaris will not upgrade your 2000 for free for this . As for the steering, the geometry was improved as well as using a bearing type steering bushing as opposed to the crappy plastic ones that came with the 2000 model. Hope this answered your questions

Thanx for the advice on the Polaris upgrades. Bummer, was hoping to score the new brake system for my quads Anyway, my friends Trailboss is quite slow. Maybe its supposed to be that way, it is a fine trail bike, but other than that it seems sluggish. No biggie!

SAVE YOUR MONEY AND BUY ANOTHER ONE BESIDE A TRAILBOSS... I ALMOST BOUGHT ONE UNTILL I RODE IT. NO POWER, VERY HEAVY (GOT STUCK AND HAD TO LIFT IT OUT OF A HOLE), AND NO TORQUE.. SORRY I AM NOT TRING TO BASH POLARIS BUT I JUST DONT LIKE THE TRAILBOSS.. NOW ON THE OTHER HAND MY BUDDY HAS A SCRAM 2000 400 2STROKE AND I WOULD GET THAT BEFORE A 400EX OR A 300EX (I HAVE HAD A 300EX AND 400EX).. ONE WORD ... ITS AWESOME. I GUESS ONCE YOU HAVE SOME GOOD POWER AND PULL BETWEEN YOUR LEG'S (300EX,DR-350,SCRAM 400 ETC) ITS HARD NOT TO COMPARE IT AND NOT LIKE. GO UP THE LINE AND GET A EXPEDITION OR A 400 SPORTSMAN.

The Trail Boss is not meant to be a mudder, its a trail machine for beginners, old folks and us who cant afford anything else. The engine puts out as much as the old 335 but in a cheaper package. Also it only has a high/reverse tranny so its not going to get much torque. Now if you upgrade to the Magnum with the high/low/reverse trans and maybe 4-wheel drive if you can afford it you have a economical all around bike. But still not much power but enough to get to the other side of a situation.
So far the 325 engine in my opinion has been holding up pretty good with the exception of a couple glitchs with early ones that are fixed now.
