Has anyone had the problem with the Sportsman 500 having so much power that when you get on the gas the front end comes up, the back end goes down and you break your rack? (I like the power, just not the breaking the rack part.)

Before I got the SP500, I figured I could never wheely a quad of this size. Little did I know that in low, that's all it does. It has so much low end torque it's hard to stay on when you goose it.

 

I didn't figure you could ever do it either. I guess once you get the racks fixed you won't do it will you? I never imagined a large quad would do that.

 

You'd be surprised. It doesn't break the entire rack, just the part that hangs farther back than the rack extender.

 

Hey Mac, I'll trade you for my SP500 if your looking for an underpowered quad. I've been shopping for performance improvements. All I can say is, enjoy what you have in the power section, not the breaking part.

 

I rode a 97 model and it did not do anything close to a wheelie. In high it seemed like it was straining for the first 5 feet then it rode normal. In low it would just take off. I felt more snap from my Arctic Cat 500 thats for sure. But maybe this one had a worn belt.

 

Wow! I never knew a Sportsman could do that! People say that you can never have enouqh power but this is one of those times that saying is wrong!

 

I don't have a Sportsman, But my 99 Magnum 500 will stand up on the rear rack quick if you aren't careful...
In Low range, just punch it, and get ready to either take a hard landing on the front wheels (pesky EBS works TOO good in low range), or, all the way over and on your back...
