Ok this is what i think polaris will do with the sp700 in the next few years. Maybee the kawie 650, grizz660 and sp700 have about the same HP now but wait a year or two and ill bet the sp700 will be out in front. The sp700 is derived from the sled engine which is a 780cc twin. Polaris could De-sleeve the sp700 engine to 780cc, they could add twin exhaust, and a bigger carb.

Im positive you could easily get over 50hp out of that motor and alot of torque and still be reliable.

do you think that the grizz660 and kawie650 can do that?????

So will we see a sp700HO soon or even a sp800???

later

This premier has a built in sequel... The 2003 Sportsman 700 H.O. !!
With twin carbs and dual exhaust. 2004 will have Fuel Injection !!

Even if they add twin exhaust, another carb and more cc's its still gonna have a hard time beating the Kawi 650.
Here's why:
1)sp700 two valves per cylinder, kawi 650 4valves per cylinder.
2)sp700 pushrod limit rpm to about 6000 or 7000 rpm max. The Kawi 650 uses overhead cams which can already rev to almost 9,000 rpm(put higher compression valve spings in and you could probably push around 12,000 rpm like the Ninjas)
3)Power to weight ratio. SP700 740 lbs, Kawi 650, 604 lbs.
4)Is there a reason why you cant put dual exhaust on the Kawi 650 also?

Enough said!!!

PrairieDust, what do you mean have a hard time to beat the kawi? Polaris engineers have made sure already that the Sportsman 700 can beat the kawi and the grizzly. No need to upgrade it.

Hey Scottaboshia, I just cut and paste a comment from someone who has driven both and claims to be a diehard Polaris fan........

UNIMPRESSED...
I consider myself a Polaris diehard, I've had 6 of them and still have 2 with none giving me any problems. I was the first to give a deposit on the 700 at my dealer. So you can say I like them. My dealer gave me a call to let me know the 700 was going to be at the ATV Jamboree today at Gunstock NH, to go up and give it a ride. So I traveled almost 2 hrs. to ride it. I paid to get in and went straight to the Polaris demo area. When I first saw it it looked just like the sp500 except for the tires and rack extensions but when I got closer there was a few nice addons such as key start, digital display, bigger radiator, winch mount, chrome wheels and very nice Goodyear Grip tires. Other then that it looked like a sp500. Then it was time to ride it, so I turned the key and fired it up, it was very quiet too quiet for me, if I have a twin under me I want it to sound that way. So I put it into gear and was expecting it to toss me back, it didn't, then while I was going and punched it, it didn't feel much different then my sp500. Granted it only had 1 mile on it, and the demo track wasn't that great, I did or thought for a 700 it would WOW me but it didn't. I tried my hardest to get the front wheels off the ground, but there was no way it was going to. But before I told the Rep how it felt I had to try the Griz. and Kawi. 650 first. The Griz. sounded better and was a little quicker off the line. It ran good' and had a nice ride. I too tried to get the front wheels up but to no prevale. I think most was due to the suspension being to soft. But over all it was better then the sp700, mostly being $400 less. Now it was the Kawi. turn when that fired up it sounded like there was some power under it. Then getting it going was instantaneous, this one flew. Getting the front wheels off the ground was a slight pull of the bars and up she went, and did this in high or low range. Was very impressed with the power and handeling of the 650. I thought it was the best of the three. But before I give up on the 700 I had to try it one more time. I came back even more convinced the 650 was best. So thinking this might be only my thoughts, I stayed around the 700 to here others opinions. They were
" Not much different then my 500"
" To slow"
" Not much low end"
" Takes off to slow"
" 650 is much better"
Then I talked to the salesman at the dealership the 700 was at, and I told him I was VERY DISAPPOINTED withe the sp700. Then he told me last night they dragged the sp700 with the Kawi.650 and the 650 beat it by 5 or 6 lenths. So in conclusion unless they do something drastic to the motor or clutches to get that power to the ground, there will be no sp700 in my garage.

I rode with a 650 Kawie a few times this summer and he was faster, in a straight line race, boring, but in the mud he was getting winched out were I was sailing through, I have 2500 miles on the original tires, his machine had 30 miles on it. it overheated after only a couple mud holes, we actually had to find a house and ask to use the hose to flush out the radiator. The only thing the 650 does better than my 500 at least from what we could see that day was it is faster. Add some 26 inch tires with some more grip and it would have been a bit more even in the mud. A nice machine but it certainly in no way has me wanting one. Wheeling my machine is of no importance to me, neither is straight line acceleration, give me good power, a nice ride, decent ground clearance and a great 4x4 system and I will be happy, and that is exactly what the SP500 does and does really well.

Thats a bunch of bull. Everyone likes to crack the throttle every now and then. Your just saying that because you probably can run faster then the 500. In my opinion the grizz 660 gets a little from both worlds. Enough power and acceleration to wheelie and go fast and good ground clerance and a good four wheel drive system to get threw the mud.
