Well I dont know what it is but some people just cant stop dissing Polaris ATV's...But then again, some peopole love their Polar ATV's and they never stop running, like Thor said about the one with 11,000+ miles on one, I dont know If I want to buy one or not. I have no clue who to listen to...YES they have the best 4wd system, and the best ground clearance...I have ridden them(2001 SP500 HO) I really like them, and I am planning on getting a new ATV by the fall, Polaris is in my options with Honda, Yamaha, and AC.

Would a '95-'97 Polaris ATV give me lots of trouble??

I WANT YOUR OPINION....SHOULD I CONSIDER BUYING A PLARIS ATV????

After owning a new 99 Sportsman that was a POS,I took a chance on a new 00 Xplorer 400cc 4x4 and it REALLY wears out parts FAST to.Just go to the Polaris Forum that reads ''list your parts here''and see what I been thru?

My Sportsman was improperly repaired by the dealership on many occasions.I took it to another dealership mechanic and it was finally repaired correctly. But I still wore out alot of parts like tie rod ends, steering bushings, brakes, ect.

I thought perhaps I may take a chance on another Polaris? This new one EATS up parts like there is no tommorrow.I just get one thing fixed, and its back into the dealership for something else.Im pretty sure this will be my last Polaris,at least for awhile. While Polaris ATVs are the most fun to ride in my opionion,I've had it with all these trips to the dealership for assorted repairs.Im leaning in the direction of the new 660 Grizz.

I haven't had too many problems with my Xpedition. I did put heavier front springs on the machine, because the stock ones sagged quite a bit. I've got about 1300 miles of Canadian trails on the machine.
I don't ride the machine real hard, and I keep the maintenance up pretty good on the thing. Also no modifications.

I would stay clear of any polaris quads older than around 96-97. Just take a look in this forum and you'll see that most of the polaris's are only a few years old or new. I owned a 94 4x4, and my wallet was always dry from all the little repairs.

Yes I was looking at that post..."List your broken parts here", THAT SCARES ME, now I dont want to buy a Polaris because of what I saw, looks like the most common parts are Tie rod ends, steering knuckles and brakes.

You'd have to maintain your Polaris well, dont run it too hard, and Keep spare parts handy to be a happy camper with a Polaris around. I dont want that....I think I want to stay with Honda ATV's, but I want the true 4wd...Ohh well I can get a locker

Andy was very kind and gracious when he said stay away from the pre '96 models (owned 2, don't go there)

But, Farmr123 has very few problems.

Shaft-ride models are the most reliable. Brake pads are usually their only maintenance item.

If you can stay away from chain drive.

The new untested Arctic Cat 400I's automatic could be something to be reckoned with for the new year with the IRS. It could be a reasonably priced winner.

Yes, that would have 3 chains and six sprockets, but a reliable motor. Good average price for one that has not been ridden to the limits. Look for discoloration on the engine and excessive scratches on the plastic. You can usually tell the ones that have been ridden hard and put away wet.

Except for the ones that have been driven in ore dust country. They can look nasty and still be good machines.

I think Polaris is really reliable. I ride nearly every day in deep mud, water, and ruff trail riding. My 2001 Sportsman H.O. is still performing just like new. It has around 900 miles almost. I think as long as your not lazy enough to keep up with maintenece(spelling?) it will be extremely reliable. I will admit that if your a lazy person that deos not want to keep up with maintenece it will be very unreliable.
