Scrambler X review!
#11
That's my question as well. I remember that when the X came out some guy from Polaris said that there weren't going to be any internal modifications, just different decals and accessories. I don't understand how a big X on the side makes it do better wheelies.
It does look pretty good though.
Has anyone heard any thing about a Sportsman X? I friend of mine said he was at the dealership this week and saw a sweet looking Sportsman X. I asked him if he meant the Scrambler, and he said no, it was the Sportsman. I've never heard anything about it, so I don't know if it's something I missed, or something someone cooked up on there own.

I am guessing there is a gearing change or something. A couple of my friends have a 2000 4wd scrambler, and the other one has a 2001 2wd scrambler. I have driven both, and neither are even close to being as easy to wheelie as the "X". I don't know how it will do in a drag race, but I am positive it would beat the 4wd scrambler. I've been told as well that no internal mods are there, but I have to wonder. Maybe a smaller front sproket? or clutch settings? There seems to be a slow or "low range" in the bottom end. It engages quicker and launches better off the line than the other 2 scramblers, and sometimes my EX. If you nail the throttle, even when standing/sitting as far forward as possible, you will go over backwards. You have to let off at some point, or you'll flip back. We have yet to get all the scramblers together, but that time will come.

wheeliedude,
If I'm not mistaken, there is a + two tooth difference on the back sprocket making it a 38 tooth instead of a 36. They might have monkeyed with the clutches some too. Other than that, it's just a fancier Scrambler.

My buddy just bought a 2002 ScramblerX 400 4X4 an I can tell you it has alot of improvement in small areas. I have a 98 scrambler 400 4X4 stock an his X will smoke me easy. He was riding with a 660 Grizz an they went to see how fast the X was the grizz with 1 size bigger tires toped out at59 on the Dig speedO an he walked past him. I have ridden it an you call fell the better clutching in it. I tested my TB in drag race an my An I get him on the line to top end of TB then he flys past. He paid $5500 out the door for it. I am impressed by it for being all stock. If I had the money there would be one in my garge.
