OK,
ive done some shopping around,.
ive decided to go back to stock size tires, so i can get back that power, i will be loosing 1 1/2 inches of clearance, but i can get a skid plate,.......

dennis kirk says they will beat any price by a buck that is advertised on the net,
so i did some shopping,
on cawoodtire.com and rocky mountain

i can get rims for my front wheels, tires for front and rear, for the about teh same price as the expensive rims and just front tires.......

ok... here is my calculation, dennis kirk has these proucts....

front tire - titan 489 xt 23 x 7 x 10 (compare to rocky mntn) total :69.98

rear tires - spider trac 22 x 12 x 10 (compare to cawood) total : 107.18

itp steel rims 10 x 5 - compare to cawood - total : 57.50

full total: 234.66

are spider tracs good for mud / rocks?
should i get 7 inch or 8 inch wide front tires?
i think ill stick with 7, but id like to know,
is this better then keeping stressful 25's on the back and putting 25's up front which is unbalanced,
any opinions?
should i go for it?
any better deal?
any ideas at all
any input please

that sounds like it should work better and it will put a lot less strain on your parts. I have not tried the spidertrack myself but have heard they are pretty good.

Just wondering if you have thought of Bearclaws?.They are inexpensive, and are good for all type's of riding expect maybe deep mud.I have lost a little power but not much compared to stockers.I know i love mine and they hold up real good. Good luck.

That 400 engine will have no problem running 9 inch wide in the front and 12 inch wide in the rear.I had 26 inch GoodYear Mudrunners on my 99 Sportsman and now im running the same thing on my 00 Xplorer 400cc 4x4.Nine inches wide in the fronts, and 12 inches wide in the rear.

There are WAY better mud tires than Spider Tracs.Rocky Mountain has some nice mud tires called Dirt Devils and are not real exspensive either. And I certainly DONT advise going DOWN in tire size. This is a 4x4 ATV you are refering to here, ground clearance is a huge factor.Dont sacrific that.
Best of luck,

Bill

I'm not very familer with polaris but...

You are looking at 23in tire in the front and 22 in the rear on a 4x4. That miss matched tire size should put that quad in the shop fast.

Kukerdan,

Tire width doesn't matter, tire diameter does. I never did like the idea of bigger tires on a 4x4 without the benefit of a low range tranny. I think you were asking for trouble with them. The skidplate idea is a good one, I prefer DG myself. They may be made of aluminum, but they wear like die hard blue steel. Don't worry about a chasis skidplate, the stock steel one will do quite nicely. Just concentrate on the A-arms/front driveshaft and the swingarm.

boxofrokx,

Your right, you don't know much about Polaris. Polaris machines, like the Scrambler we're talking about here, come from the factory with one inch larger tires in the front. The gearing on the front drive is set up differently than the rear drive wheels. Just as some of Suzuki's older 4x4 models have a one inch smaller tire in the front.

is the dirt devil a better REAR mud tire?
im trying to get a deal here,
stevexplor, yes i have considerd bear claws, as a matter of fact i found em for around 50$ i want em for the front, unless you they they would be good in the back, better then spiders ,
but in the front dennis kirk doesnt have 11 inch high rims, so i couldnt get my deal,
they dont make a 10 inch high 23 inch tire,

im using my stock rear rims, and buying new fronts, my rears are good,

MUDDY4LIFE - your a crazy man, this a scrambler,
i have 25' realters on the back now , you can really feel whee the quad lost its power when going up long hills, it still goes, but you can tell it had a lot more, 9 inch in the front?
then im gonna loose all sportyness,
8 is the max id go in the front,
does anybody know of a bettwe deal/ better tires for either position for around the same prices i listed?

hpyer - i agree the stock chassi skid plate is good,
what about the moose swimng arm plate, it cheaper and is made of .260 aluminum?

PS! im not worried about loosing ANY power here,
there is no way i can come out of this with less power,
im dropping 3 inches in tire diamiter the rear!
as you see i listed the fattest rear tires available,
if there are any nasty mud tires for around 55 each, tell me

i really appreachiate all the help

guys, i have YET another plan,
heheheh,
it would allow me on my budget to purchase my skidplate for the about the same price as the above plan,

that is, if dirt devils are good,
how are they for mud, rock climbing, hard pack, ruts, ect.
i know they are 6 ply, but i heard they are a smooth ride,

if i got dirt devils all around my total would look like this :

rears irt devils 22 x 11 x 10 - total: 76
fronts - dirt devils - 23 x 8 x 10 - total 64
rims 10 x 5 - compare to cawood - total : 57.50

total : 197.5

is this a good deal?
