This last weekend we went to Mena, AR and road almost 200 miles. The HO performed well and will climb like a goat! 60mph is NO problem with the 2001 HO!

I had belt material (black dust) on the plastic by the belt housing exhaust when we loaded up to leave and I wonder if my belt is damaged? The machine make a whining (high-pitched) noise when over 15 mph and gets louder the faster you go. I think it is whining around the belt area or the transmission. Anyone hear this type of noise? My neighbor's machine makes a similar noise but my brother's HO, with more miles, does not. The performace of the machine has not been affected. It runs perfectly.

I thought that most Polaris's made a whining noise. I know mine probably whines more than any other I've ever rode with. It always has.

As for the belt dust, you will always have some belt dust expecially after 200 miles of riding. Being that it is a 2001, doesn't it have the lifetime belt warranty? My dads 2001 400SP has it. I thought that all 2001 SP's had it.

My friend said it was normal but I was wondering about others. I do have the life time belt warranty but I think the belt is ok. Do you think the belt could be worn? The performance is still perfect.

I have 2 2001 500 Scramblers and evertime I ride it seems that I hear new noises mine also whines after extended rides. I quit worrying about it and unless it makes a grinding or clunking noise I'm going to just ride and enjoy. If it gets to loud take it to your dealer and they should check it for you.

Weedy,
one of my sp's with 120 miles makes no noise.
the other has 300 hard miles plus another 70+ miles of plowing snow and does make that high-pitch noise. i also wonder if there is any damage to the belt there.
i can tell you that they are equal in performance through-out the powerband so i guess there is nothing to worry about.
