I am thinking of puting heavy duty front springs on my SP 500. Is this fairly easy to do? What all do you have to diassemble?

It sucks.
Use the rubber spring spacers instead. I had the HD springs on my 98 sp500 and the ride was so stiff up front it was no fun to ride. I replaced the HD springs with the OE and I am satisfied with the ride with One set of rubber bushings for now. THis winter when I install my County plow I will install a second set of rubber bushings.
Hope this helps.

How well do those rubber spacers work? Where can I get them? How much, etc.?

They can be found at your local Polaris dealer and they are avilable on line too.
They seem to work better than the HD Spring

Thanks Triclaw,
How do the spacers work? Where do they go?

they are inserted between the spring coils. They do not let the spring to fully compress.
It is easier to install and remove than messing around with different springs.
They take about a minute to install both.

It depends on how you ride and what you use your quad for. I have the HD springs on mine and they are a little soft for my riding style (I have problems with my Spiders hitting my fenders on landings). I'm actually going to step up and buy the optional 6X6 springs. Of course with all the weight I added on my quad I didn't notice a difference in the ride.

Best thing to do is find someone with the HD springs and ride their quad and see what you think.

I like the heavy springs myself. The first ride sucked untill I dropped the air in the front tires to 10 psi from around 25!!! They front struts no longer bottom on every other bump like the stockers did.

The stock 6x6 spring is the heavy 101 lb/in spring. Yes/no???
Does Polaris now make a even heavier spring for it?

I used the HD springs on my 98 Sportsman and they worked great, no regrets at all. The ride was a little stiffer but not harsh by any means. The fact I had a 2000-lb winch up front helped to soften the ride I am sure.

I agree if you have the weight up front it does not ride as hard as if you are completely stock other than tires.
When I used the plow I did not notice a harsh ride but that adds plenty of weight up front. I just found during normal riding (for me) without the plow kit the ride was very stiff. Take into account the 27" bi claws up front.
I just wanted the softer ride again and I found the spacers to be the easiest way to acheive different shock set up quickly.
