Fun Wheeler Park

Could anybody and everybody that has been to Fun Wheeler Park post any and all information about it, such as: if it is open year-round, any lodging facilities, food, events, trails, etc.
I know Greg Sims has been there, and I occasionally see others talking about going there. I've got a small group that is planning on going sometime after halloween, but I need more info.
Thanks to all,
Waylan

First off since I hang with Greg I will take this momment to make a wise crack. Greg is afraid of the mud and he now only rolls his quads down hills and rides dirt.
With that fun out of the way, FWP is a fun place. Their site is www.funwheelerpark.com. It is all about deep water at this place. Right now it is pretty dry and there is some mud out there but still the water is what this place is about. Take a look at my site for pictures. I have 60 some odd pics of the place.

I do still have the SP500. I sold the HO, and bought a Scrambler 400 4X4 then I sold the Scrambler and bought a Honda Rubicon for the wife.
Yes, I said HONDU Rubicon... it is in the garage. I spit on it every morning as I leave for work.

Thanks for the replies everybody.
You still didn't answer my question, Greg.........why have you changed your riding style? Getting old, parts are expensive, just going through a temporary phase, what?
I know after I broke a cv joint on my sportsman, I shyed away from aggressive mud riding somewhat......had this fear about breaking another joint. Last week, I talked to someone at a cv joint repair shop that has developed the gorilla cv.....it has been discussed before on this forum......and for $200, he will rebuild your cv with heavy duty internals that he warrants for life......the only problem is that the housings are the weak link now.....but they are in the process of finding a sleeve to press onto the outside of the housing to strengthen it. Anyway, I still have my 26" tri/bi-claws from the sportsman I used to have, and they're fixing to go on the Xplorer. I'm not going to go wild with lifts and all, but I do have a 1.5" lift on the front, and I might put one on the rear. I'm just not going to continually worry about breaking the joints any more. Oh, I didn't clarify........I'm only going to go with the gorilla cv's if my stockers break.....I have no plans of taking good cv's off to be torn down and rebuilt until they break the first time.

Walexa, I am not worried about CVs. I have not broken a CV, and I do not think I would break a CV with the lift installed properly. I like riding with my family and they prefer riding in the mountains. We do not spend 3 hours cleaning quads, and I am not ruining bearings and breaks on my Rubicon. I also do not have to go home and wash the mud off the truck inside and out, and I do not have to worry about the usual mud mechanical issues. When we camped out at FWP, we would also trash the inside of our camper. It just got to the point that it is not worth the effort. I will still go out there on occasion without the family. I also do not want to drive all the way to AR, just to have to drive home due to a mud related problem.

Greg,
I understand what you mean.....we all occasionally change our riding preferences, and this can be brought on by different things.....I was just wondering what made you change since I thought at one time you were into the mud scene pretty good.
Anyway, what part(s) of AR do y'all visit? I have been to Mena a few years ago, and have been to Dover twice. My most recent trip was Labor Day weekend to Dover. I had recently bought a 1997 Honda 300EX, and took it. I really should've brought the Polaris though......the rocks just beat me to death on the EX with it's low-profile tires and all. It was still fun, but I would've been more comfortable on the Xplorer.
My plans are to visit a new riding area at least once a year for the next few years. I'm trying to get my wife more involved in the sport so she and I can take the kids places and enjoy more family time. I would like to sell the 300EX, and get her something that suits her well and she feels comfortable on, but I'm having a tough time deciding what to get her. If the new Kawi 360 is lightweight, I will be interested in it. If it's the same weight as the 650, it would be like buying the SP335......overweight/underpowered. Anyway.......
As for the mud......I ride with some young guys who live to mud ride. I have a set of SurTraks mounted on ITP Magnum Billets that I plan to use for recreational trail riding, and I plan to mount the mud tires on the stock rims.......these I will obviously use for mud riding and the annual mud rides. You and the family ought to come down/over to Merango this next year......normally, you can get as muddy or stay as clean as you want. If y'all don't have someone to ride with, just let me know on here, and you can ride with my group. It's normally the first weekend in June, and I know this is an EARLY invite, but it's always fun.

Walexa,
I have not talked to one person that enjoyed Morango. I would like to come to just see for myself. I might take you up on it.
I ride at Lake Greeson (Bear creek Cycle Trail), Albert Pike, Wolf Pen Gap (When open), and Broken Bow. We went to Broken Bow two weeks ago and we are going again this weekend. Let me know if you want to ride at one of theses places and I will be happy to show you and your group around.
You should start riding with the Wolf Pack. They are also from Monroe, and they come to FWP every few weeks and for all major rides. You could probably car pool with them. They have campers set up permanently at the park, and they have cover patios to hang out at in bad weather. Mike Smith is the ring leader. I have his number at home. I will e-mail it too you later. They are fun to ride with. they ride half the night, and drink some beer but they are a fun group. He takes pictures of the competitions for Dirst Wheels.
How was Dover (Mocasin Gap assume) I have never been there even though Russellville is my home town. Are ther alot of trials and how difficult are they?

I have never ridden with the Wolf Pack, but maybe I will hook up with them when I get back home. I have been working out of town for almost a year now, but should be back home in West Monroe on Oct. 27th. I plan to stay home after this job is over.
I have been to Merango twice.......both times were fun to me. It is a little hot, but that's anywhere you ride. There aren't many mosquitos....I guess the exhaust from the wheelers keeps them away. Anyway, it keeps getting bigger every year. The other ride (Belle Cote) is fun too......less muddy, but more hills and varied terrain. It is always the first weekend in May. I ride with different groups at different times........one group has a couple Polarii, and the rest Hondas, and the other group is just 3 Kawi 650's. Those Kawis are pretty awesome.
Dover literally has hundreds of miles of trails. It is easy to get lost. Unfortunately there were several bike problems this last time I went, and we didn't get to explore much. Although most of the trails we did get to ride weren't technically difficult, there are places that I couldn't muster enough courage to attempt. One was on a pipeline. I wouldn't attempt it on the 300EX, and would have a harder time convincing myself to attempt it on a 600LB+ machine. You can normally stick a leg out or something on the little Honda, but a bigger bike than that, and it gets real hairy if you start losing traction.......pucker factor skyrockets. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about.
Anyway, I would like to ride with you sometime........I almost feel as if I know you from at least a couple years' worth of communicating on these forums. I imagine that myself and the guys on the 650's will plan a trip to FWP during the month of November if it doesn't get too cold.
