I'd highly recommend getting a set of CV band pliers. Without these, it could be very frustrating. Most part stores have them (10-15 $$) When I replaced them in the past, I used the grease that came in the package.

Good luck

I have replaced many cv joints and boots on my xplorer. I have bought the pair of pliers for and i think they aren't worth the money. They don't work very well. The best way i have found is to split the joint from the shaft and put the boot on. Then put the shaft in a vise and lightly tap the joint with a rubber mallet until it pops in. Then for the clamps, take the clamp and put it on the boot until you can't push it together anymore and put a zip tie around the clamp and tighten it down. Then get a good pair of pliers and pinch the clamp together and your done. Also it's a good idea to check the seals in the hubs and make sure they are in good condition. I always put some marine grease around the seals to make them seal better. Let us know if you have any trouble with the boot installation.

To get it off just tap on it lightly and pull it apart. It has a ring on the end of the shaft that helps to hold it inside the joint. Most of the time it just pulls off with a good tug. It's easy if you put the shaft in a vise to hold it.

Well thats done
Wasent so bad once I got the shaft off.I forget if I pinched them or spread them apart, but once I did it fell off.
I also had to clean them out because there was grass and sand in it
I tried 3 different auto stores for the plires but they dident have the ones for the bands that polaris had.
So I got diff bands
The ones that were like zip ties sucked, you couldent get it tight enough.
the universal one you couldent get a bite on the hooks.
So after farting around all afternoon I found the 2 nubs to grab hold of the stock bands and put them right on with a pair of needlenose with no problems. You just put the bands on so they dont come off the boot.Theres 2 nubs about 3/8" apart, just pinch them together with needlenose when theyare together push the tag end down ........EASYAS HELL
Well everything is together and I took it for a short run
theres no funny noises and everything seems to work fine.

Thanks for your help

Oh Yeah,There was NO WAY IN HELL that shaft was comeing off by pulling it.I was useing a block of wood and a 3lb sledge and that dident work
