Just to throw in one other thing.

It's weird, but it seems like Modded Banshee's and quads like that seem to retain their value pretty good. I have seen modded '89 Banshee's sell for over $4000. That's almost the price of a new one (however it's not like they changed anything on them).

I don't know, maybe it's only the extremely modded quads that actually are worth more than book value. The trail modded quads (like my Sport) don't seem to be worth any more than normal unless you find the right person. Like in AZ400L's case, his mods DID add value to the quad, however he will only get back a fraction of what he's got into it (like he said).

Personally I know that my Sport is set up right, and that it's a very reliable quad that hasn't been abused, but people look at it and think it's a time bomb waiting to explode. After all, Polaris doesn't have the best wrap for reliability anyway. Oh well, the first $2400 I get takes it!!!

I was thinking of trading in my Trailboss on a scrambler or warrior and the guy told me to take off the dg bumper, put stock exhaust back on, and put stock clutching back in and then they would consider taking it. Then they offered me 1800 for it. He then preceded to tell me that I could sell it out right and maybe get 2400 out of it. I told him that I would rather set fire to it than give it away and said no thanks and walked out. I still got it and grown to love it. I am planning to buy and install the rcr 414 bigbore kit before Christmas.

By the way It was only a year old when I tried to get rid of it.

AZ400L --

I'll sell my 400SS for $4000 anytime, in fact, I'll probably be lucky to get $3500. I don't even want to tell you how much I've put in it since it was new. The $5000 you mention is not too bad. The machine was ridden 75 miles in '98; 50 miles in '99; 30 miles in '00 and 10 miles in '01. I would estimate the total miles on the 400SS to be about 700.

Just think, if you invested that much in a Banshee or 250R, you wouldn't be selling it.

* Modded Banshees and 250R's have much more resale value since they can be raced in organized circuits, and many, many parts are available for them. Particularly if the modifications are not of the home-grown variety, but done up as professional. The Polaris value is kind of like the Edsel, if anyone remembers.

It's best to keep all your stock items and sell it completely stock and selll your aftermarket items on ebay. You'll get around 55-70% of the new cost on your aftermarket items.

I know what you're talking about Jack. I figure of $5500 that I have into it, is for whats on it now. As you know my 400 has progressed through several stages beginning with an RCR kit. I've gone through 3 pipes, 3 port jobs, 3 carbs, 4-5 different clutching kits. Granted I was able to resell all of those hard parts, but I still took a hit there.

In hindsight, had I known how much I would end up spending on my 400 over the last two years, I would have a Banshee in my garage, with a stroker kit, drag light frame, lots of chrome, making about 30 more HP that I currently am getting, and a "NOT FOR SALE" sign on it.
