Is there anyway to keep my Scrambler 500 4x4 from smoking the belts? I now have the HPD kevlar belt on it and it is wasted. I seem to be doing this when it gets stuck in the mud or pulling things like my 5x8 trailer or people out of the mud. I am on my 4th belt this year and it is strting to get annoying and expensive. It last forever with just normal riding. Help me out guys.

Oh yeah, I forgot something. I adjusted the clutches to make sure they were aligned right and they checked out good. After I burnt another belt I started doubting my alignment so I took it to my dealer and they said everything checked out fine also.

If the clutches check I would say that it is rider error. The new HPD kevlar belt should last for a LONG time.

When leaving the mud/water, or pulling trailers, carrying people are you nailing the throttle? Read the owners manual for the proper technique for riding in these situations.

I have followed what the owners manual says and what the dealer says. I have tried doing it with little throttle and I have tried nailing it but it doesn't matter. I will have to say that nailing it in 4 wheel drive does seem to make the belt last longer. It doesn't smoke the belt immediately it usually take a couple of rides and a couple of weekends of working around the house. I was told not to pull anything with the Scrambler but I didn't pay the money I did not to use it. I have played around with installing an Explorer 400 tranny because of the low range but can't seem to find one.

HEAVIER CLUTCH WEIGHTS!!!!!!!!! this will solve your problem or at least diminish it if you are gonna pull things and get in the big mud I would suggest 56gram but I do not know what is done to yiour bike or the elevation

If top end speed doesnt mean much to you then add a smaller front or bigger rear sprocket. You are essently geared to high for what you are doing. Kind of like starting out in 3rd gear with your car, or pulling something really heavy with your pickup. You can switch to shorter rear tires, are you running taller than stock tires now, if so then your gear ratio is really off for what you are doing. Leave the work stuff to the utility quads.

I am running stock everything. Here is what I found out today. I can swap the tranny from an Explorer 400 4x4 into my ride without any problem. The front differential is the same on both. The rear sprockets are a little different which isn't a problem. This will give me a low range and 25 inch tires. I will have to fabricate linkage for the shifter but I can use the actual shifter from a 6x6. I got this info from Bert's. Check out his ride and you will see what I am planning on doing. If any body has done this before, I would appreciate some info. I priced a new tranny for $995 at my local shop.

That pictures has 28 inch tall tires but he said it now has 31 inch tall. He has a 5" longer swingarm and wider A-arms. He said he would have a pic when he gets finished working on his sight, can't wait to see it!
