Jetting Sportsman for Altitude

I live at 5300 feet elevation and will be riding mostly at that elevation and in the summer at 10,000 feet and up to 13,000. I have a 2000 Sportsman 500 and am wondering what changes I might have to make. If someone has experience with similar riding elevations and the Sportsman 500, please advise me on the ideal jetting and clutch set up. I will be switching to the K&N filter and that will be my only mod.

I too am interested in this subject. I have an '01 Sportsman 500HO and live at around 4,000 feet but often ride at elevations between 5,000 - 8,000 feet. I do have a K&N air filter on it with no other mods. I am running the stock Jet which is 152.5. What changes to Jets is anyone recommending if any?

I rode my 99 SP500 in Colorado between 10,000 and 13,000 feet with a 142.5 main jet and it ran perfect all the time. I've since added a K&N and a 162 jet but when I return to Colorado I'm putting the stock air filter back since I know it works perfect with the 142.5 jet. It actually ran good with the 142.5 jet back home at 800 feet.[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img]

Jet for where you live and clutch for high altitude and you can ride at home and at high altitude all the time.............go about 2 grams lighter on the clutch weights. It's easy and fast to do. Your dealer can do it in about 30 minutes total.............I did this with my 500 and I rode from 1200 feet to 12,000 feet and never changed anything since going to this setup..........oh, and the first thing I did when I got my 700 was the same thing........and it runs great............
