What weight oil does the external tranny have (chain & gear oil, 0-30, etc...)? I know it appears to be very light in nature.

The tranny or gearcase uses Polaris Chaincase Oil. It is a rather thin oil with moly's for extra lubrication. I have never heard of any good subsitutes for this oil.

How about substituting Amsoil Chain & Gear case oil??

Are you sure it is a chain & case gear oil??

Yes, I am sure it is called Chaincase oil. As for the Amsoil product, I am not sure if it is the same thing, but it sounds like it would work. I don't have any evidence to back this up, but I personally think Amsoil makes the Polaris oils, so it would stand to reason that they are the same product.
