I have an '01 500 2x4 scrammy. Does anyone have any pictures of a cut airbox? Please email them if you can't post. I don't want to cut too much and make it bog, but since I never rise on much but river rocks and clay, I want to open it up.

If playing submerine isnt in your plans then take the box off, add a K&N and outwears, rejet and go.

The best thing I ever did was throw the airbox into the trash.

Tampering with the airbox lid on a 500 will slow the machine down unless the carburetor is redone to match . The carb relies on the box to allow itself to *open up * .

Besides rejetting , the carb needs a different return spring and some other modifications .

Do a search on "air box mod" I believe fourlix had really informative post on why to leave it alone on the 500's

HPD Has a 500 air box/carb mod kit good for 2hp (that's a lot for a suck, squeez, bang, blow motor) Part # ABCK5S. Requires some drilling, cutting and riveting...along with re-jetting the carb.

The air box is a tricky thing to modify on a 4 stroke, remember when you get the MAX air in you have to get it out. If you are running a stock pipe leave it alone you will loose HP. If you have an after market exhaust preferably a HPD drill 2, 2.5 inch holes in the top and your throttle response will be like night and day compared to stock. Granted the pipe comes with new jets to compensate air /fuel mixture of the pipe.
