Question about 2 stroke timing

I would like to know why on my 300 2 stroke that the timing retards itself as the engine is revved up.I put a light on it today to check the timing and noticed this.I know on most engines the timing advences as rpm's go up.Why are these bikes backwards?Is it to increase bottom end power?
