Recently there was an advertisement in the paper for a local dealer accepting applications. They list parts/accessories manager, sales associates, and shipping and receiving. I wonder if any of you out there in the P/A manager positions can give me some info on what type of position this is. I am interested however the person I spoke with said it would be easier for me to fill out an application to see where I would qualify then talk about what the job was. He did say it would be something like an area manager. This place has 4 stores and kind of a monopoly on the toy's in the area each store sells all major brands of atv and motorcycles. Any info on if this is a profitable position would be appreciated. thanks

I was a parts manager 3 days ago and I loved my job and the job itself was not why I quit. By the sounds of it they want you to control the inventory of all stores, place orders, send out sold p&a, and recieve incoming orders. That is all fairly easy and if they are that large they obviously have everything on computers. It was hard sometimes for me to keep up because we did not have anything on computer. I controlled 9 major lines and kept all info in my head so it was not easy. I recieved a base pay with a commision incentive. I made decent money. One thing that will help more than anything is your willingness to learn and dig for info. That will either get you praise or give you a bad rap. I loved to find things other dealers couldn't just to show that I would go the extra step for my customers. I usually look through my manuals and catalogs once a month to keep in step with whats new and basically ended up memorizing it. And believe me their are trix and secrets to the trade just like anything else. As long as you want to learn and dig for info you will make an excellent and knowledgable Parts Manager.
