I have 2000 Polaris Trail Boss325 still under warranty /400-500 miles on it/. There's a noise coming from the chain area!! I asked the Polaris dealer at Shorewood, Il. to tighten the chain or inspect the sprocket. He did not touch the chain,he said it was OK,but
he has changed the belt and the spark plug and charged me 110 dollars. When I refused to pay for his services and agree to pay for the parts only/ to be fair/, he refused to give me my bike back. I had no choice, but to pay... The next day I test rode it and the noise was still
there/intermittent/.I decided to stop the check... /the court papers delivered few days ago/
Can you , please , comment on this from a technical stand point only. I will use your reply at the court.

Thank you.
J.C.

P.S. The old belt was given back to me, it looks like new, the old spark plug was not found.

On my 2000 Boss the chain rubs on the plastic guard and makes a noise. I don't think there is anything wrong with it though and my belt makes a slight noise. I really think you are being to hard on your dealer.

I think your dealer riped you off by charging you that outrages price for stuff it didn.t even need. I really like Polaris atv's and Snowmobiles but through my past experiences all the dealers are full of crap!

Sounds like your dealer is hungry for some service $. I would fault your dealer for investing the parts and labor without your pre-authorization, especially when you were expecting a warranty repair.

The belt may have been showing wear, but the part is $34.95 at my local dealer and can be installed in 10-15 minutes by an experienced technician. The spark plug is around $3.00 and is a 30 second R&R. Bottom line, they charged you $65-70 labor for about 15 minutes work. You might check, but they might have a minimum of 1 hour shop labor.

Regardless, they should have notified you prior to performing unauthorized repairs.

Good luck

I had a problem with a noisy chain. Period. The dealer changed the belt in immaculate condition and changed the spark plug I had no problem with.
My original problem remained unchanged.
He charged me money for something I never authorized or complain about. He simply ripped me off, that is how I see it. I would not have done anything with the check if the Machine was fixed. But IT WAS NOT. Don't get me wrong I always pay, I have an excellent credit, but this was something I couldn't swallow. It is not about the money, it is about a principle.
By the way, I know how the belt noise sounds,I changed heavily damaged belt on my SP 500 last summer. I had Trailboss 250 I traded in for TB325 last year. I had the chain noise fixed before.I know the sound...
This battle may cost me lots of money, but I have to finish it. I'll see him in court.

I think that you are 100% correct in your way of thinking and the way you went about it. If you had authorized the belt and spark plug replacement that would be one thing, but how in the heck do they think they can get away with performing services at thier discretion and charging outrageous amounts of money for it. It's a good thing they didn't decide that your tires were looking a little bit worn, they would have replaced those too! You did exactly what I would have done, you offered to pay for the parts, just to be a nice guy. Don't even sweat the court thing, I think you will win easily, no judge in this country could possibly let them win in this situation. Unless of course the judge rides a Polaris and wants some free parts

You got to watch these Polaris Service guys. You most definitely got ripped off. And the clause about you getting your quad back was a threat from the service guy. Maybe Judge Judy would like to handle this one.
