I use a dremel with a cutting wheel or a bench grinder to grind off the nubs, then they will just push out pretty easily when you tap on them with a small bladed screwdriver or something similar.

might, but will be a pain in the *** if you dont have a drill press. the pins are hardened and you'll slip off. you only need to remove the part the is showing then tap them out.

you'll still have to get the pin out so you can put the master link back in

in order of prefrence if I was going to separate a chain:
1) use the master link if it had one
2) chain breaker
3) bench grinder
4) dremel tool
5) rotary grinder on a drill
6) sharp file
if I did'nt have the tools, I'd take it somewhere..parts house, auto repair shop, motorcycle repair shop, lawn mower shop, friends house..etc...
any repair shop should have a grinder..too much work otherwise..
this will work for separating the chain..BTW don't they have master links in them..like a bike? if you are trying to take out a link, I understand it a lot better...you will have to separate it on the full link sideplate...the ones with both pins through the sides..CLP

Go drop 30-50 bucks and get you a Dremel tool. It will come in might handy for all kinds of projects. Definitely worth the investment.

Try your local dealer, or motorcycle shop. They'll probably do it for free, or at worst, a couple of bucks.
