The Dealer in which I plan on buying my 00 Xplorer says it will cost me 399 dollars to add EBS and that is not including installion.Is there not some kind of a trade in allowance for my new clutch on the Xplorer?How much am I to expect to pay for installion?The dealer is suppose to get back with me tommorrow and let me know.Any help before I talk to the dealer is thankful on my behalf,=====BILL

 

I have heard that the EBS is not that effective on the 2 stoke model anyway. Not sure on that though.

I have read from many people here that you get a $200 dollar credit for your existing clutch. I guess I always thought the $400 was for an installed EBS though.

Can anybody else comment on the effectiveness of EBS on the 2-stroker quads?I surly dont want to waste my money on something that is of little effect.Is it worth the extra $$$?===BILL

 

Bill ; I installed the EBS system on a 400 Explorer for a customer who is also a riding friend. His was a 1996 model. There is a credit for the stock clutch set. I'm not sure how much it is exactly but its somewhere around$175-$200. The EBS will work on the 2-stroke. You can tell a diffrence . It is not as dramatic as on the 4-stroke though due to the diffrence in engine compression between the 2 and 4 stroke. It is to me however worth it. Those 400's can be murder on brakes if you bring it to a stop from 60mph a lot without the EBS.

 

Be thankful they don't offer EBS. Put a roller setup on the standard clutch and you will be happy.

 

Jack,will the roller set up you refer me to help to hold the 4x4 on downhill descends?What other benifits if any can I expect from this roller set up?Who sells it?How much?I REALLY like the EBS on the 99 Sportsman and I dont like the idea of descending hills with nothing holding back the quad except brakes.Kagey,the Xplorer will seldom see 60mph,so which set up do you prefer,roller or EBS?======Thanks to all,===BILL

 

Bill; I am unfamiliar with the Roller clutch setup although I am wanting to learn about it . It supposedly gives a better engagement.

 

Just left the dealership and they only offered me 120 dollars for the old clutch set up.They want 100 dollars for installion[EBS] and the EBS is 399 dollars.They want another 189 dollars for a HP clutch kit called ''Heel Clickers'' and an additional half hour labor.Somehow I feel im being RIPPED.======BILL

 

I opted not to get the ebs on my 99 400 Xplorer and someday intend to get the roller setup Jack talks about.

I dont do alot of steep long decents (but short ones I do). The Quad does not just race free down the hill as some would suggest. There is still some level of engine braking with no EBS and no Roller clutch.

I would guess that if you ride in the mountains then EBS would be the ticket..but for normal short hills...leave it off (IMHO).
