Well my drive belt from hpd lasted 3 whole weeks. I dont power brake, I had the clutch alighnment checked by polaris mechanic(ok)I bought this quad stock and have proceeded to mod it since I got it. This belt consumption is really starting to pi$$ me off!I've had it for 3 and a half months and have gone thru 2 polaris belts and 1 hpd belt.Any other guys out there wiegh 250 or more. I am starting to think my 260lbs is to much for the belts. I was riding on a flat oval dirt track when the hpd belt gave way. The top of the belt had separated from the bottom.I mainly ride on the weekends and drag race up the sand dunes. I can only occasionaly beat 400ex, I get stomped like a red headed step child by shees and raptors. When i drag race i can now beat all of them out the hole but they walk past me around 100 feet or so.It get out the hole fast and the top end is fast, it just takes a while to get.I really expected to be able to win some braggin rights when I spent this money on mods.Help!!!!!
could the clutching and the power band be out of sync?Help!! To many mods, not enough power

Well I don't weigh nearly as much as you, but the mods on my Polaris were about identical. Mine was still on the original belt from when it was new and I had never had it slip or anything. I rode two passengers on it regularly (so that is over 300lbs) and my 290lb. Uncle had quite a bit of seat time on it as well with no problems. Plus on the days when we got bored there was a lot of power braking and pulling competitions going on so I by far didn't baby it.

Just wanted to let you know my luck with them. Hope you can get your problems resolved.

Knock on wood for me. I weigh 260 also and have never had a belt go bad. My clutch has never been checked for alignment since I have owned it. I would send the belt back and talk to HPD about your problem. Some people have gone to putting the 700 belt on with good results.

2 things I've seen cause belt separation:

Tension too tight on the secondary spring
Clutch getting too hot from bad venting of the cover

I have 96 400 Scrambler with the original belt , my brother has a
2001 500 Scrambler and he was chewing belts up all the time .To
get to the point after we replaced the buttons on the driven clutch
its been fine .

I am now on my third belt. The stock belt lasted around a year before it broke and it had dry cracks all the way around the belt. I asked my dealer what the deal was and he told me that it was just a bad belt. I didn't know they made bad belts? My dealer replaced the belt free of charge and that belt came unstitched and separated into two pieces within two months. I got another Polaris belt free of charge but bought a Dayco belt (which my dealer said made the belts for Polaris) for a spare so I wouldn't be out of commision on a weekend ride. The Polaris belt that my dealer replaced this time made my quad creep when at idle. He told me that they sometimes do that and to bring that belt back and he would replace it with another one. The Dayco belt does not creep and has been working fine so far. I think that there are just a bunch of bad belts going around. If that makes any sense. Yes, the Dayco Ultimax 2 belts are the best in my opinion. I run one of them on my Mach Z (sled) that was having problems with the belts and it is still in great condition.

Whoa!!!, this many replies in an few hours!! Anyway, the air intake for the clutch seems to be fine, plus I've never felt any excessive heat from the clutch cover. As for the buttons, they looked fine 2 weeks ago. How would worn buttons cause premature belt wear? The "700belt"?Whats that?
