IS AUTOMATIC TRANNY FLUID TYPE F GOOD ENOUGH FOR SCRAMBLER 4X4 HUBS? HAS ANYONE USED THIS OR SHOULD I USE A POLARIS FLUID?

I just use the Polaris Fluid it is only $2.99 a bottle. I don't feel the risk is worth it. My $.02.

Good ol' type F is all my polaris has ever seen. Back when it was made, polaris didn't offer a hub fluid. After seizing a bearing at about 60 mph and being slung sideways on the road, I started routinely repacking my front wheel bearings. Everytime I did this, I would change the hub fluid. I never found any shavings or other signs of wear. The hubs also always worked properly. I can bet my bike has seen more abuse than most. Plus it is piped, ported, and other mods. However, I do only run polaris engine oil, and if hub oil is only 2.99 a bottle that might be the way to go.

I used Polaris oil when I first got mine, but it gave me trouble - hubs sticking when disengaged. I switched to Mobil 1 synthetic ATF and have had no trouble since then.

I had a buddy that had horrible trouble with his sportsman and he did the same and hasn't had trouble since then.

Polaris oil around here is $5.00/bottle - expensive for no more than you get.

Thanks for all the info , guys. I think I'll go with the synthetic Mobil1 ATF as well. The closest Polaris dealer to me is about 50 miles. I appreciate all the input.

My atv is a 97 scrammy 400 4x4. We are talking about the hubs. On my atv, on the hub there is a little screw on the hub about an inch back from the end. I don't know if the sportsman is like that or not.

The 700 does not have hub fluid.

I have used a generic brand Type F for a few months now in my Scrambler, and the hubs have never worked better. When I first bought it (used-several months ago) I would get sticking hubs and have to back up to disengauge one or both. Now with the Tyep F, When I hit a mud hole both front wheels go and when I come out both front wheels are disengauged just as quickly as they engauged.

I am disappointed to say that I had a hub stick again today after changing to Mobil 1 ATF. What is the deal with the type F fluid over Dextron? I don't own Fords, so I have never had any on hand, but if there is a reason to have it over the Dextron for the hubs, then I will be all for it.

Any comments?
