Sportsman belt problems
#1
Just put a new belt on my 98 S500. The old belt gave faithful service for 3800 miles and was changed just because I was there. It measured very near the "change out" width according to the Polaris service manual. The new belt measured right on (for width) per the manual.
Now the problem. After installing it and doing nothing else, the quad is considerably slower and less responsive than before! Today a sometimes riding companion stated he has the same problem. Both belts are from the dealer and the right part number for EBS machines.
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

The old belt was not as wide as the new belt and the primary clutch had to travel more to pinch the belt. This means that it more than likely took a few more RPM's to pinch the belt making it feel more responsive.
My SP500 did the same thing, the new belt will break in and your ATV will return to normal.
If you want the quickness back now install a clutch kit. The clutch kit I purchased had 53S flyweights and a green spring both OEM parts.

I have 26" vampires all the way around and can still hit about 52-mph. I am a pretty big guy and firure that this is a good top end. On the bottom end it does take more rpm's to get going but jumps up to about 28-mph like a rocket.
