I have a 2002 Scrambler 500 4x4,I saw a Scrambler 400 x for sale and was curious if trading the guy was a bad idea or not. They didnt have the 400 x out when I bought my 500 so it wasnt an option to buy one then.I like the idea of having everything the same, except the 400 motor is way easier to mod out. Curious if you guys would trade or not..Replies would be appreciated.

If you plan to do Mods, the 400 will the better choice, but if you plan to leave it stock I would not.
I thing stock to stock the 500 is a little better. If you do mostly trail riding you can not beat the low end grunt of a 4 stroke. JMPO

Thanks for the reply, I dont know what to do.The only thing that makes me consider a trade is the possibility of making it modded for cheap..I am sure it handles the same. And having something different from everybody around me would be cool.( Color of plastics and graphics on the 400 x)Any other replies would be appreciated. Thanks again Bubba.

Yes the different color plastic and decals are neat, but don't let that be your desiding factor.
Do you plan to buy Engine Mods? If yes, the 400 has much more capability of producing high horse power for less cash.

If you are happy with the power of you 500, and don't think you need much more stay with it. You can put a pipe and silencer/clutch kit on it to produce an extra 6 to 8hp. From there things start to get real expensive. I do however belive we are going to see a lot more stuff for the 4 strokes due to the slow on coming death of 2 strokes on the market place.

I'd be interested in trading my 2002 Scramber X 4x4 for your 500 4x4
Let me know, I'd be willing to pay to trade
I decided to upgrade to the 500 since I don't want to mod the 400,

If you like the looks of the X plastics and graphics, just buy them and put them on your 500. I think the Blue plastic looks great and am thinking about doing that to mine. All the plastic is interchangeable.
