500 Scr sprocket change
#1
Hi,
This coming weekend I will have Aaen pipe, clutch kit, roller clutch kit, K&N filter, stabilizer, and a few other little goodies installed.
Assuming I stay with the stock wheels a little longer, any suggestions as to how many teeth I might take off of the rear sprocket? I want to keep the snot/torque about even with my stock (for now) 500, but blow brother John away at top end...

Rich,
You may need to talk with your dealership about that. If you change the ratio of the rear axle, your AWD might be in trouble... If you change ratios on the rear, you may have to on the front end also... which is hard to do with the shaft drive front end. I would suggest losing some bike weight with lighter wheels and/or thinner walled tires.
Short of that, try a different range plug, higher octane fuel, jet kit, turbocharger, synthetic oils. etc...
OR, just let the air out of his tires..
Or #2.... From a dead stop... sitting side by side, when you say go, turn toward him and he will either lift off the throttle or you can just run him over... That usually works for me...

Thanks Mudmachine, good point about the front AWD gearing. (My first 4x4s)
Without changing gearing, I am curious as to what I could do (change 4 wheels to slightly larger comes to mind) to add top end speed.
With added power, the increased top end I want assumedly must come from gearing.
I am doubtful that it will come just based on the clutching changes described.
But thanks for pointing out the AWD issue!!

If top speed is what you are looking for... then you can go with a slightly taller tire... but watch out for your higher center of gravity...
Your top speed should be increases anyway.. with the PROPER clutch changes, a free flowing exhaust, and the K&N filter...(you REALLY need to re-jet the Carburetor for maximum gains..!)
Get all the parts set up right and working together, and you will be able to spin the motor to a higher RPM... which will give you a higher top speed....
It will be interesting to hear how all this turns out... Keep everybody informed on how it goes...
