Hey guys,
I just got rid of the kids Trailblazer and traded it in on (are you ready for this?) a 2003 Honda Sportrax TRX 250EX. Please forgive me, I was weak and wasn't thinking clearly.
Seriously though, I needed a machine that wouldn't be coming back to my house every week to be fixed and is fairly maintainence free. Also I needed a machine that is slower than the Trailblazer (my daughter rides like I do, and that's scary!). I wanted something sporty so the kids could enjoy themselves too. I just wish I could get the LT-Z 400 I saw at the dealer out of my mind.........

It seems more and more Polaris owners are switching to other brands. Although I never had one problem with my Sport, and loved it dearly, I jumped ship, and bought a 400EX. Going riding is now 100 times more fun.
It's wierd. You buy a quad, and even though it is 100 lbs overweight, and handles a bit worse than a tank, you still love it, and in your mind, you believe it's the greatest quad out there. Then you go ride a light, incredibly handling quad, and realize, "what the heck was I thinking?"

Dont feel bad guys the same thing hapeened to me[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img] After a demo ride on A Z400 my Scrambler was left at the dealership, I loved my Scrambler but man I just didnt know what I was missing, Like Quadfather said "100 times more fun" Just about nails it[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif[/img]

That's funny because I just took my 410 lbs race mod out and scared everything including one big fat porcupine. Didn't break anything, never do, and had a total blast. Everyone has their choices.

Don't feel bad I have a 250X "loaner" quad, for friends that want to go riding and don't have anything. I think its good for the kids to have something they can change gears on, its important for them to learn how to drive a manual trans, or your case semi-manual.

Nice purchase Mike. The TB is nice too, but kinda fast for some kids I think.

I made the switch last year to Honda and haven't been happier. The lightweight 400ex is so much more fun to throw around than the overweight Scrambler. I gave Polaris my money for two poorly designed quads, I am slow sometimes, but not slow enough to give them my money for the third. I am currently in the process of getting rid of them, if any of you are interested in purchasing them. I just don't have the time or desire to continually work on them anymore. I am not brand loyal to any make. I just ride what is fun and what is designed to hold up. The two Polaris's that I have now are neither.
Ken - I realize that you have a truely awesome Polaris race quad, but comparing that to a stock 400ex is like comparing a Nascar Dodge Intrepid to a stock Ford Taurus. If you want to compare race machine to race machine, that is a comparison, not race modded to stock. Now when this new Polaris extreme comes out, then you will have a true comparison and am a suspecting that the Polaris will dominate the 400ex. Nothing wrong with that. It is time for Honda to upgrade the 400ex anyway. If this new extreme is the real deal and shows a good tract record of reliability, then I may come back to Polaris, but not until.
If anyone is interested in trailing a few 400exs this weekend, I am meeting up with Quadfather tommorow at Wayne for some spirited riding. I know this post is going to get some of you into an uproar. All I have to say is lighten up, its only an atv.

Whoa there guys, I just got the 250EX for my kids. I've heard they're pretty reliable (typical for a Honda). I didn't want to trust a 5 year old Polaris to provide my kid's enjoyment. It's sad really, I have the same model (1997 Trailblazer, Celeste's ride) that has been taken care of that has only given me one problem (sputtering when wet), is modified and still goes great. Some people just don't take care of things.
About the 250EX, I hate it other than the styling and reliability. It has compression braking (good for the kids), it's tiny (again, good for the kids) it's slower than molassas (really good for the kids!) and it doesn't seem to turn as well as my Polaris machines (file that one under size).
I sat on a LT-Z 400 yesterday and was struck about how narrow the handlebars were. Maybe I'm just spoiled by my "McGrath bend" Renthals, but that would be the first thing that went if I bought it. Other than that, I kind of hate to give up the power of my Sport. I would really be taking a step down as far as power output is concerned. I some how doubt it will ride any better than my Sport for the riding I do, undoubtably it would handle better, but not ride better. Besides, I know that I will never get even close to 1/4 of all the money I put into the machine at trade in time. Heck if I could get $2500 for it, it would be a start. I do like the reverse on it, but the stock tires are only two plys and would be the second thing that went on it. Besides, I don't like buying a first year model anything. Too many problems.

Mike, the Z will be worth a lot more than $2500 in a year.
You really need to ride it to see for sure it would not ride as good as your Sport. Do you have modded suspension? All I see are shock wears. I can tell you one thing, it's rides a ton better than a Scrambler. Same basic suspension at the sport. No comparison. If you have it modded than it might be better, so why change?
