how deep of water
#3
That depends on your skills, your machine setup, and you nerve.... I've seen guys with the best equipment and mods.. but with no skills, stuck in a "sissy hole".. I've seen people on junk tires and almost no mods.. but witht he rights skills.. they can go thru just about anything..
Myself.. I have a Magnum 500 with 27" tires (Blackwaters.. NOTHING special) and I can go thru some DEEP water... There are several different ways to do it... One is to keep your weight over the handlebars until the machins gets deep enough. then lay on the gas HARD and pull up... the tires and pulling up will lift the front end out of the water and allow you to "water wheelie" your machine thru the deep stuff... Another way is to just lean back and keep thr front end higher than the back... If you keep the wake pushing away from ya.. you have no worries...
I/We ride in rack deep water all the time.. and usually find holes that take the headlight pod underwater for a few moments.. You just have to KEEP IT MOVING....
If you ride in deep water a lot... I would suggest extending the vent tubes for the front/rear differential and the transmission vent..

It depends on how deep and how long the the submersion time is. I have personally been on Polaris's and watched the handlebars go underwater and the machine kept running.
However... this phenomenon will only last until the airbox fills with water and then the engine will stall.
But for quick little forays through the water they are fine. Remember the air intake is right there at the junction of the seat and gas tank and the transmission ventilator intake is right next to the front rack.

I agree with what every one is saying. Remember to, that bigger tires means you can go deeper. I think it is safe to say that the 425 or the other atv's can go through deep enough of water. I suggest you start out real slow but keep some throttle at all times and speed up as needed after
you are already in the water. That has really been
good for me. I think I will try the above idea to about leaning over the handle bars untill you get deep and then lean back to raise up the front. Sounds like a good idea.
rangerchet, polaris expedition 425 cc 5 speed.
ps: My atv is 150 miles up north and I have not been up north for about 2 months now. I miss my atv.
