I bought a baskets case machine last spring and put it together. New case and piston. It had a DG can on it. Pipe seems stock. This thing gets terrible milage. Aboot 10 at best. But it also seems to run bad too. I am in process of checking the timing too, but I would like to know what the baseline for this machine is. I am now running stock can.

I have a big manual for this thing, and it tells me stuff like if it gets colder put in a richer jet and etc. Nowhere does it tell me what baseline is.

Also, it might not be a bad idea to check to see what has been done to the clutch too. What are stock weights and ramps? Spring?

I have heard on here last yr that the 400's should get aboot 17 mpg? It has enough power to pull the front end usually, but it still feels like it comes up short for a 400.

Thanks for any help fellas!

if i remember the main must be 240 with stock pipe and can, cannot tell the pilot and needle setting toughts.
i'm not sure but stock the 400 come with 58 g of weights,if you're going to keep the machine stock i suggest a cheap but good clutch kit from EPI.

I just removed all my stock stuff today. Main jet 230, pilot jet 35, 1.5 turns out on air screw, white primary spring, red secondary spring, S55 weights. At least that's what my 99 Scrambler 400 4x4 had in it from stock.
