Top Speed of a Scrambler 400 and 500?

Suicide,
why are you so offended by my post?
The other speedo's are all the same so if one is wrong they probably all are. Do you have any proof that the polaris speedo is correct? I have 12 satellites that say they are.
P.S. Chill out man

By the way you asked the question of which one goes faster. You're gonna be pissed when you buy a Scrambler that is supposed to do 68 mph and you get beat by a quad that can only go 60mph.

I got pulled over doing 65 down my street by my Dad's buddy. He's a State Trooper and he tagged me at that speed goin up a hill. The radar is +- a mph but i dont think its THAT many. Besides I have 4 GPS in my house and I have never hit more than 6 satellites.

Sorry everyone, but speedos on the wheelers are bad off when you get going very fast. Motorcycles that have wheel driven speedos are the same way. My full race mod wheeler stretched out at a 1000ft dragstrip only goes 74-75mph TOPS! That has also been confirmed with GPS.That is done with 15-34 gearing. Just for kicks Sat night I ran my bone stock 99 Sport. It ran only 60mph and it wasnt going any faster. The dragstrip uses two beams set at 60ft apart and judges the time it takes to get from one to the other. That is a bullet proof way of figuring the speed. Suicide, I'm sorry, but the fact is everyone knows a Raptor,DS,etc will whip up on a stock or very mild Sport or Scrambler 400 even, and their top speeds told over again by magazines only go in the low 70's. The stock 500, especially a 4x4 will be slower. Ken Thompson's (who happens to live in Minnesota) race mod only goes about 72mph. If you havent rode a full race mod 400, then you just couldnt understand the difference. If anyone says theirs will go faster, then they run alcohol, nitrous, or down a 45 degree angle with a big wind at their back LOL. You are completely correct about the top speed of Polaris's. My 96 Scrambler(studded tires) would only top out at 57 mph, and that has been confirmed by a radar gun at ice drags and by GPS many times. That seems right in line with your 99 Sport since my Scrambler has a 2 tooth bigger rear sprocket. There's just something about Polaris quads that keeps them from getting impressive top speeds. On the other hand, my DS650 has incredible top end power and would pull all the way to the rev limiter, or 76.5 mph when bome stock. After adding 22" rear tires to the stock gearing, and I was pulling over 82 mph confirmed with a GPS. Most quads do not go as fast as people want them to go. Stock Scramblers will not go over 65 mph. I still don't understand why people won't accept that fact. That's the bitter truth, so live with it. If you want a quad that has the best top end, get something that has the best top end power. Banshee and DS650 are probably at the top of that list. If you plan on trail riding at 65 mph, don't plan on doing it with a stock Polaris.
BTW, Dougie, good luck getting your SP700 up to 70 on a GPS. If you were shocked to see that a SC500 only does high 60's, what do you think the 400ex does!??

Just my 2c, Bubba and Hughes are right on the money. If you don't have the memory style GPS, good ol duct tape that puppy to your bar pad....just don't get too side-tracked and forget about steering..hehe
And always make sure you have a long shutdown area, I've puckered there more than once.
