325 Magnum 4x4
#1
I'm looking at a used 2000 325 magnum 4x4. It seems in great shape. It runs great, too. Any advice on this machine, good or bad? Anything I should look for? It was only used to push snow, so it has few hours and seemingly little wear. It is on the original Titan tires, and they show little or no wear, either. The thing started up extremely well, and seemed to run smoothly and perfectly.
I'm looking at it as a buddy machine and also for my wife to ride. How's the ride, handling, and driveability for a woman? How's it hold up to a big guy?
Any advice before I plunk down the dough would help. Thanks.

DANw,
the magnum is a VERY good choice. Congrats!
it's very solid and reliable. i bought a '95 425 Magnum, kept it a few years doing some hard riding, then sold it to my brother who uses it to this day on his farm. he uses it daily as a work horse. his has required very little maintenance- one oil change and lube, and chain adjustments per year!
Also, the steering bushing and battery were replaced about a year ago.
THAAAAAAAATS ALL!!
(the plastic has gone to hell, scratches everywhere, but this Magnum is one fine representation of the high quality and reliability that Polaris represents.)
Enjoy yours!
sincerely,

I just bought it today. I then went to a Polaris dealer and purchased some things like oil, gear lube, front diff lube, K&N filter, gas cap with guage, etc. I then changed the oil and cleaned it up a bit this evening. It runs fine, but I think I might want to speed up the idle just a tiny bit. Any tips on that? I have no owners manual yet, but I ordered one today. I also need a rear shock preload adjustment tool. I think its set a little soft for me.
I ran it around the yard a bit and I think the power is decent. It isn't a screamer, but seems to have good low-end grunt.
I'm thinking about installing a tack/hour meter, as well, to aid in maintenance.
Quick question: Does the engine oil also lube the tranny? I have a quart of gear lube, but I had thought this was for the rear end. The Polaris dealer confused me a little on this. Is there a separate place for tranny fluid? The 4x4 gears or transfer case seems to be separate from the engine, but I can't see any drain or fill points, so I'm really not sure. On my Arctic Cat, the engine oil takes care of the tranny.
Any other tips or suggestions would be helpful. I'm going back to get a spark plug tomorrow, too. There seems to be a little oil leak at the top of the engine, on the front. The dealer didn't think it was anything to worry about, though. He checked the VIN and said the oil lines were replaced under recall, so thankfully that won't be something I have to have done.
I think that's enough questions for now. I'm sure I'll have more later.

Theres a brass thumb fingure screw that sticks out the side of the carb that adjusts the idle.
the gearcase is seperate form the engine and takes polaris agl fluid. There is a 3/4in bolt (gold color) on the bottom of the gearcase, and has a 9/16in safety bolt and nut threaded into it,wich backs into the frame keeping the bolt from vibrating out.
And the fill should either be a nut on top of the gearcase by the rear output shaft or a yellow dipstick.(We don't carry magnums soo i forgot wich they have)
the rear end and front pinion take gearlube.
and the valve covers due tend to leak just a lil bit on the 325 engines, nothing major there.

Thanks for the info. I'll check it out. Looks like I have to go back and get another bottle of gear lube.

How many ounce of gear lube does the rear diff on the 325 magnum hold? My understanding is 10 oz. Is that right? I think I actually put 11 or 11 1/2 oz in.
I've changed all of the fluids, and everything seemed ok, except the rear diff fluid was black and pretty well shot. The front left hub was dry, and the right one's fluid was almost black.
I'm looking forward to hitting the trail with this thing. I like the way the engine sounds and the tranny is very quiet compared to my AC.

I had my 325 in for a valve adjustment and my motor was leaking also. Had the mechanic retorque the bolts and it stopped. The motor is no screamer but it will take you where you want to go all day long. Might not get there first but you will get there. You made a good choice. Have not changed fuel filter yet but I bet it is close to the fuel on and off petcock. Probably take the leftside coveroff and should be able to find it.
