Any bike 300cc and up with a low range can pull quite hard and if that fails you always have your tractors at the farm.LOL

Just curious, Trailfinder, why you would like to move down from the upscale Sportsman? Are you having trouble with it?

In the first test of the 425 by dirtwheels, they raved about it. They had only positive things to say about the 425. I personally like the auto. Have you thought about the explorer 400 or the magnum 500. Both are great quads that will haul loads or haul A@&!! which ever you prefer.

Michael,

I own a 425 Expedition and love it. This doesn't mean that the Sportsman is a bad bike. I think the Sportsman is a outstanding bike, I mean a 500cc machine with Independent Rear Suspension? No other company has a bike of this size with the same features. I prefer the manual shift myself. First gear on my Expedition is super low and low-end torque is unbelievable. The torque is enough that I can ride wheelies in second gear on my bike.
I rode my friend's 500 Magnum, and feel that the Expedition has just as much power on the low-end as his, but sometimes in deeper water his Magnum will suck in some water and his belt will slip, where I can keep on going. Once you build speed, you can feel the power of the automatic kick in. The dealer I bought my bike from told me that each year he gets a demo bike to ride. This year he chose the Expedition over the Sportsman. He said he runs fishing lines along the edge of the lake he lives by. He never had any major problems with his Sportsman, but the belt will slip sometimes. He said he has not had any complaints on his Expedition. I think a lot of your choice shall be your own personal preference. Both bikes are wonderful bikes and get the one you like the most.

Hey

I have a 98 Sportsman and I have no complaints. I cannot see why you are wanting to downsize from a sportsman. I wouldn't if I were you.. I have been lately climbing stuff on it and it amazes me every time I throw my leg over it.
