how often to change chain/sprockets
#2
Keep an eye on the profile for wear...that's monitoring the wear of the links as you look at the chain from the side. If it's stretched too far and won't properly tension up when you adjust it. If you have frozen/stiff links.
As far as sprockets, the front one is the one that'll make you pee your pants when it goes. The sound of that sprocket grrrrrinding as it jumps teeth on the trans output shaft will make you think you lunched the trans.
I normally replace both sprockets and the chain at least once a year. After every good hard riding weekend, the quad gets washed up and a 'postflight' inspection. Lube and adjust the chain so it's all ready to go next time. Try Tri-flo spray teflon on your chain, stays really clean and works great on the tie-rod ends too.
Hot Seat, sells the Sunstar sprockets and some good chains. I'm sure Rick Ritter, and HPD could also hook you up.

I would change the front one out....they're pretty cheap. I always coat the splines of the new one with anti-sieze. Take a good look at your chain. If you're not running too high a HP, I wouldn't worry too much about it....watch it though. Just give things a good look over, you'll see where they are wearing.
