z400 or predator?

i've ridden a predator.
and i hear they make about 51-55hp at the crank.
and runs about 82-85mph top end.
and they will already have engine goodies available for the pred.
the muffler and filter should give about a 9 percent increase in power to the low and mid range.

I have also heard that the Predator makes about 45 hp at the rear wheels, which if it is true, then I am very impressed. That is as much power as a piped Raptor. As far as 85 mph, that is pretty silly. Polaris own advertisement shows the top speed of the predator at about 74 mph, and they show for comparison, the Raptor at about 71 mph. I have read reports of the Raptors top speed as any where from 72 mph to 77 mph depending on what evaluation that you read. No matter how you look at it though, you have to give the Predator some real credit. I am actually excited to see what it will do. Hopefully it will prove to be all that Polaris say that it is, fast, great handling, and reliable. Unfortunately, for some reason, the Predator is not getting all the credit and attention that I think it deserves. Unfortunately all that credit has been wasted on the Z400! The Predator seams to me to be far more revolutionary than the Z400. The Z400 is a really nice quad, but what is revolutionary, or new about it. They copied the frame geometry and suspension from the Honda 400ex, the reverse gear and operation of it from the Raptor, and added a proven engine from the DRZ400 dirt bike. Actually, when you think of it, it offers absolutely nothing new, just a well-rounded package. But the Predator has made a real effort for an original design that seams to be the whole package. It is lower and wider than the Z400, which means that in theory, it should be slightly more stable. Lets just hope that it performs as well as it is supposed to. The only thing that I am disappointed about so far with the Predator is that it doesn't have reverse.

There's only one private party that has a Predator as of today. There's lots 'o' guessing of the HP reading. Even the factory test riders were evasive when cornered. Maybe the best thing to do is wait til you can sit/ride one and compare the ergonomics and ride for yourself. They're both nice machines...although I'm still kinda biased to the star of the north, don'tcha know.

Modquad is right! There has not been any actual hp written about the Preditor. Some speculate at around 45hp but not a fact. The manufacturer will not print that yet untill all the bugs are worked out and bike is in production.Speed has been clocked faster than the raptor. But just like he said you need to wait to see for yourself.

Faster and stronger is not always better, the set up has to be right as well. Anyhow I'm glad to see the Pred on the way. Now maybe the Raptors and Preds will be to busy flaming each other on who's faster to worry about us lil' yellow Z people. LMAO

Yeah, right! If you want a pipey machine with absolutely no low end, poor handling, a wonky air filter system and lousy chain adjustment system, not to mention a quad that was designed in the '80s and has remained basically unchanged since, get a Banshee! Now if you want to enter the 21st century like the rest of us, get the Predator!
Yeah, I have to agree about the magazines. I have, in front of me, the latest issue of ATV Action. Wow, to think they cut a tree down to make this rag. On the cover it says: "High Performance Shootout of the Year". They test the Honda TRX400EX against the Suzukikawasaki LTZ400KXF400. Gee, I don't know about you guys, but I've been waiting my whole life for that shoot out (scarcasm intended). Even though the magazine went out of it's way to make the test unfair for the Suzukikawasaki, it still won. Sorry Honda, you just don't cut the mustard anymore.
Does any one want to bet that with the "new" way of testing these quads as of late (400s against 400s only, Open machines against open machines only, etc) the Polaris Predator will never get a shoot out against the "big four"? HMM? Any takers? Or maybe they'll just ignore it and hope it will go away.
