My brother just a few days ago installed a k&n in his sportsman 400. He said he felt a little increase but not as much as in my machine. The k&n is a better all around filter than the stocker and its easier to keep clean.

You'll see the biggest gains in the two-stroke machines with the K&N. I don't think mine made a difference at all, but I love the fact that it is easy to clean.

Hard to tell in a 4 stroke. I really doubt your bro felt a thing scramblerized. His machine was really cold when he rode it for a few minutes. Most quads roar a lil more when they arent warmed up. I rode the same machine and couldnt feel a thing.

it's always a good move on every polaris quad (especially 2 stroke)but jetting must be fine tuned to see a real flow gains in power and response,on a stock engine you'll get some little more torque and response, the bigger gains is when modded, the fact is that k&n flow more air like 20-25% than the stock polaris filter so little increase as well.

As I always keep posting, don't waste the money on the K&N cleaning solution. Get a gallon ice cream bucket(keep the cover)and fill it with some 409 household cleaner from the "econo-size" refill bottle. Keep the the bucket covered when not in use. You can also use a paper towel to skim excess "cleaned" oil off the top of the 409, so you're stuff will last longer.

Just a little extra interesting advice on K&N filters.
Keep K&N filters well oiled.
I got to talk to OLAV AAEN (AAEN PERFORMANCE)
I was asking his advise on PREMIX or OIL INJECTION on the big bore.
He stated that they rarely see any engines fail due to lack of oil.
Usually caused by guys letting there K&N run dry,This condition will allow fine dust particles to flow right on through, He said this would cook a new engine in a weekend.

What if you ran an outerwear skirt on your K&N, do you still have to oil. I just bought a K&N and an outerwear for my LT250R. I figured this would be a great way of keeping the small stuff out, and plus add life to the filter.

If it needs oiling, should i just use regular 10w-30???

a desert rat will tell you that a k/n filter filters dirt like a screen door filters air.
keep it wet! hehe seriously! keep it wet!
or use the foam UNI filters we used years ago.... i KNOW they work.
this 'opening the flow' thing is getting out of hand....

Go with a foam if you have fine dust.
