Well i can say that i have had both i had a 99 scrambler 500 4x4 and for trail riding you cant beat it put a pipe clutch kit and a carb on it and its hard to keep up with, Now i have a 400 scrambler that is just to fast for the woods i use it for drag racing and MX racing it all in what you want the 500 will last longer before you will need to do motor work !(Rebuilds) The 400 when modified are sometimes high maintenance, not always! mine i have had for a year and some months and never done the first thing to it and its modified to the max but i dont ride it every day or even every weekend! So it all in what you what i have owned alot of polaris and other bikes also and just for trail riding and playing around you cant beat the polaris Automatic Transmissions you never miss a gear or you are never in the wrong gear! $ is another thing 4-strokes cost more to hop-up so keep that in mind! Good luck with your new bike!

Jumping is all about the landing. Jump as high as u want but land it right and you wont have a problem.
