Trip Meter on new Sportsman?
#1
I am buying a new quad, I am giving a bit of consideration to a new Polaris. It is still unbelievable to me how antiquated their "new and improved?" instrumentation is. Anyway, my 2000 sportsman did not have a fuel gage so I just used the trip meter to judge approximately how much fuel I had left. I looked at the new Polaris today, not only does it still not have a fuel gauge but 4 people at the dealership couldn't show me the trip meter. I left there with the sales people and one service person telling me that it must not have one, however I read in the specs on the Polaris website that it does. This is a long way of asking.............Does it have a trip meter and if so how do you access it and reset it to zero. Thanks!!!

Yes the new 2003 Sportsman 500 does have a trip meter on it. It is accessible by pressing the reverse override button while sitting still
if you press the button you will see a mileage meter, service hour meter and the trip meter to clear the trip meter just hold down the reverse button until it clears it takes a few seconds just like the old one
Hope this helps

The speedo/info display on the new Polari is hardly an antique. If that dealer couldn’t show you how it works, the very first thing you should do is find a different dealer to buy from. Unless you just dealt with one ignorant sales person it doesn’t say much for the dealership.

Dustrusty,
4 people at the dealership not being able to demonstrate a SIMPLE task is worth a letter to Tom Tiller in my opinion!
i think it's just INSANE!
this display has been sold ALL YEAR on the SP700's!
God forbid you ask them to REPAIR anything on an ATV!

Thanks, that seems like a good way to operate the trip meter, more convenient than that hard to press button on the older version. As the employees at the dealership and myself were trying to figure it out a mechanic (theirs) walked by us and thought we were trying to start the machine. He said, "It has to be in neutral!" This is their MECHANIC, unless they changed things my 2000 sportsman started in any gear. I don't want to bash any machines because I think they are all pretty good, (I had 0 problems with my sportsman) I also don't like to bash dealers, but words of advice from personal experience, Stay Away From Pro-Caliber in Vancouver, WA!
