I went riding with a 700 today and noticed the front has differential. Why the hell did they do that or was something not right?

what do u mean by the front has differential, the sportsmans dont have a limited slip diff, the front axle always turns with the rear, its just when u need 4x4, the front two hubs lock, thus delivering power to the front two tires.

The machine that I was riding with yesterday was coming out of a river with steep sides and couldn't do it because only the tire in the air was spinning. That is what I mean about differental. Was something broken or is it just assumed that they had a locked front end? It made me feel good that my 99 500 could do it though.

I've never seen a 700 do that. Mine always spins all four. I was under the impression the front was locked. I entered a mud bog competition and all the sportsmen were spinning four while the other guys had 3x4s. Interesting...I wonder if something was wrong, or if it is actually some kind of limited slip.
