Could someone please explain weights/springs to me. I have a 97 scrambler 400 4x4 with an Aaen exhaust and a 38mm TMX Mikuni carb. I am a trail rider but like a faster takeoff and a faster top-end (when necessary). I currently have 55g weights with a red secondary spring and a light blue primary (not sure of brand - probably Aaen). I really don't need anything too aggressive on top-end, but would like more take-off power and be able to pull the front wheels up easily.

Hey, I dont want to sound negative, but you should call Aaen and tell them what you want and let them set you up. I have boxes of weights and springs and it took me a couple of years of hands on to get a grasp of these things. The belt drive is simple in design, but can make your head spin trying to figure it out. If you like doing the work yourself, buy Aaen's clutch handbook and read completely through it about 3 times. That will get you a start. The best way is to let whoever your stuff comes from fine tune it for you. It's just not that easy to tell you to change this or that to get what you want. I know the race modded stuff real well, but everything else has to be done on a 1 by 1 basis. You do need to know if at all possible who made the spring.Trying to get a faster takeoff and more top end will take more than one thing to fix. Hope this might help shed some light,Bubba

It is very hard to get both bottom and top end out of a automatic trans. If you have an AAEN pipe and silencer go with AAEN clutch kit.Call them and they will tell you exactly what you need to get as close as you can to your riding style. The weights help put pressure on the belt to help it from slipping,The primary spring is what controlls your take off and the secondary is your shift rate.If you want better take off you go with a stiffer primary spring but you will rev higher before clutch engages. Can be real annoying if you like to climb. You wont be able to just putt around.but it will wheelie like crazy!Secondary spring, weaker spring gives quicker upshift and higher rpm while stronger spring gives slower upshift and not as high of rpm.You dont want rpm to be to high. But like BUBBA said call AAEN.Let them set you up.

Like the others said Call AAEN and also ((like bubba said))tell them you want the Clutch tuning manual. It will help you understand how the CVT works and help you fine tune,
It will be a well spent $25.00.
