97 scrambler 400 carurator problems??
#1
it has a hpd pipe & clutch kit
this machine is my friends... ithink there is more than one issue with the carb???
1.it needs a full choke to start even after it is warmed up?
2.it excellerates good but once you have it pinched for more than about10 seconds it will start to die out on you(starts sputtering and will die if you hold it wide open?
checked the fuel filter.. and cracked the gas cap to make sure it wasnt a venting problem?
what else could it be??
he got the machine used? and doend know the condition of tune...jets etc...
does anyone know a good starting position)
1.the correct main jet(hpd pipe in minnesota)
2.airscrew setting and clip position
Thanks

LOCO, start with a 250 or 260 main jet. If the weather is cooling down, go with the 260. Start with the clip in the middle position, and the air screw at 1.5 turns. I would take the carb off, remove the intake manifold and reed cage. This will let you do several things. First you can get a pretty good inspection of the cylinder and piston.Secondly, you can look at the reed condition and look very closely at the intake manifold for a possible crack, especially where the carb fits into the manifold. And last, you can go ahead and remove the carb bowl and give everything a good cleaning. Also, just for kicks, have you put in a new spark plug? Sometimes will work wonders on a 2-cycle. Hope this helps,Bubba
