Air Filter - K&N vs. UNI
#2
The UNI should flow more than the stocker and the K & N more than the UNI. I have heard however that the K & N doesn't protect that well and the UNI does protect very well. I choose UNI for my expensive toy.

I am in agreement. I've seen first hand the difference of the UNI and K&N, especially in heavy sand riding. I now use UNI's in everything I have. If you decide on a K&N, I would run a pre-filter as well. Bubba

I have posted this before but????anyway
I had a short talk with Olav Aaen (AAEN PEFORMANCE) about Polaris oil injection
(To Pre-mix or to oil inject)
I was told that they rarely see a engine failure due to lack of oil or oil injection failure.
Most common failure was due to guys letting there K&N run dry. This condition will alow fine dust particles to flow right on in to your motor. He said this condition will destroy an engine in one weekend of riding.
Bottom line if you go K&N keep them well oiled.
K&N do flow better but, I think I am planning on switching to UNI filters also.
I do not want to give up a lot of protection for a little performance.

I replaced my stock filter with a K&N uni filter and it ran like crap because it was too much air so i went with the plain K&N filter and it runs like a raped ape. I like the K&N better.

I too, have to agree that the K&N flows more air but the UNI stops more dirt. Both flow more than the stock ones do.
If you look at a K&N filter closely, you can see that it doesn't have real great filtering ability. The webbing of the filter is weeved into small little squares. Over top of MOST of these little squares is some more fibers that actually do the filtering. Some of these little squares do not even have much filtering material over them. Leaving room for some pretty big particles to get by.

Properly oiled the K&N has been proven to catch more, and finer dirt particles than any other filter. Its not so much the fabric that catches the dirt, Its the oil. My Trailblazer is a 2000 and has run a K&N for its whole life. To this date the compression is still 135psi. So it must be doing something right. I have 2 4x4 muding trucks that also have K&N and with all the mud and water that i go through i would not use anything else.

2manytoys,
I have to agree with you man....K&N is the only way to go but you should keep them oiled to result better performance. I have a K&N on my 97 GMC truck and the dirtier it gets the better it seems to run. Actually, in reference to my truck..the instructions say to let it get real dirty before cleaning and that was two years ago and I am just now cleaning it....ride on

folks, get rid of this air filter myth and go try KICK *** air filter, the difference is like to compare stock to k&n and even +,they flow more air than any other air filters on the market,it is a great item for modded 2 stroke engines, they're built for sled applications so no crap can pass trough them, you can get them from fettbrosperformance.com
