Predator intake mods...ideas??
#1
I pulled my intake apart examining it for the best way to install an open filter setup. Unfortunately, the seat sits right on top of the velocity tube running from the airbox to the carb, soo space is very minimal.
My idea is to try and find some tubing the same size as the carb that would run back to the airbox where a K&N could be placed, and the lid could be left off. Making it stock appearing...
I started my bike up for a few min with just the velocity tube, and man does it sound mean!! The airbox is a HUGE restriction on these machines.
Possibly if a small enough K&N was used, it could be attached directly to the carb. I think this would achieve the best throttle response and performace.
The carb could be dropped down in order to accomodate a filter, BUT a boot attaching the carb to the cyl head would have to be fabricated.
I am planning on going around to the auto parts stores, and atv dealers to see if I can find a matching K&N for my idea. If successful I will report!!

Are you sure you're not confusing sound deadening capabilities vs. air restriction? The drop in K&N filter Polaris #2874209 is quite large in comparison to other ATV filters, yet still allows you to maintain the water protection of the airbox.

Water protection...hmm good point. Oh wait...I live in the middle of the desert! It rained last week for the 1st time in like 5 months.
I was still thinking about keeping the bottom of the air box, and just having the filter sit in it. You know, for water protection...hehehe!!!
Seriously, parts need to be available for these things!! This is the longest I have ever left any of my vehicles stock and its killing me!!

TireFryer30th: Where did you get your pred from? I'm in Tucson too, but I ordered mine in San Diego because of some other reasons. Anyhow, just checking where you got yours.
And yes, you do seem to be enjoying this too much, haha....jk

Tucson Motorsports. Yea, I payed a little extra, but I really dont care.
They still have like 3 or 4 left. Maybe you should cancel your order and get one from them. If you decide to go that route, let me know, I will set you up.
And when you get your Pred. look me up, we can go riding! I really want to go out to Pinal Air Park, you ever been? Its pretty sweet out there.

Tire: Thanks for the info. I wish cancelling my order was that easy, but it's a "special arrangement" and if I did that, it could jeapordize the deal. Tucson Motorsports, where is that one located? I'm right by Tucson Cycle and Ski here on West Ina.
Yeah, we can go riding, that's sounds kewl. I've been to Pinal many of times, sometimes just for the sake of riding. It's a very small area, and not a lot to do, but it does get it out of your system. I'm used to open up dez in Cali, but I work with what I got here....
What's your new combo for the stang? I'm making around 380 to the ground, but will be around 400 as soon as I do a pulley swap. Only sitting at 5.75psi now...=) Trannies, geesh! I'm getting sick of the T-5's....been through a few...now I have the T-5Z and wish I did the 3550 or TKO conversion..... otherwise I'm likely going to sell her to pay off some bills and get the wifey a quad too.... we'll see... hope the project goes well...
