Default Questions about SP600

High RPMs for a long period of time are not good for an engine. The fact is, if you try going fast in low range, it is not good. Put your car in D1(low) and floor it. I don' t think so.

There are usually two reasons why belts go bad a lot:

1) The owner/rider does not operate properly.
or
2) The clutch is not properly set up and/or aligned from the dealer. This is usually from a hill jack mechanic that is either too dumb or careless.

You can go 35MPH in low gear in it will not damage the quad. It may not be the best thing but, it's in the books, stated from Polaris, I didn't make it up. And I dont know why people compare quads to cars especially Polaris, the polaris automatic system works nothing like a car at all. In a car you have a cetain # of gears, 5 or 6, in a Polaris you have an unlimited #

Okay, I might be over reacting here, but here it goes anyways...

I know exactly how the Polaris PVT works. You don't need to explain it 50 times. All I, and I think RINCON too, is trying to say is high RPMs for an extended time are not good on an engine. I compared it to a car simply because that was the only thing I can RELATE that too...you see? No matter if the PVT is like a car or not, it still, like a car, has low gear(s).

My point is this...do what you want with your quad, but you'll never see me, if I ever get a Polaris with low range, go 40 MPH in low range. I think that is pushing it.

Well just for your information you knowing exactly how the PVT works, then maybee you should know the PVT doesn't have gears, so refer to a PVT having gears cause it doesn't. You find me a PVT assembly from Polaris that has gears and I'll leave you alone forever.

By the way I'm not here to fight or ceate enemy's all I said is you can up to speeds like 35/40. Basically the low should be used for ruff trail riding and not just for towing and extreme low speeds. If your on smooth trails or wanna be quick moving to keep up with people then use high. All in all if your not in a hurry stick with low, thats my opinion.

I agree with Offrider15. The 500 HO is a proven machine. Something is wrong with either the rider or the clutch.

I also agree with most of what Lightman02 said in his first response. But 40 MPH in low is a form of abuse!

The thing that he's comparing between cars and a polaris is the RPM'S of the engine. Let's use my Kodiak for example (belt driven) it doesn't have gears, JUST LIKE A POLARIS, and if i leave it in low and try to go fast it will rev sky high! (that's the point of low range) Reving sky high is not good for the engine, i know you know that.

And yes you can get up to 35-40 in low on Polaris
There is no way you have ever driven a Polaris quad when making a statement like that. When I go 15 MPH in low, I'm afraid the piston is going to come flying through the gas tank.

This is straight from the owners manual "when operating at a ground speed of 3 MPH in low range, the engine speed would be around 3000 RPM.

Default Questions about SP600

Well I guess I will throw my 2 cents worth in here. I have had a 600 for about 1 1/2 months now and I really like the machine alot. I am planning on putting a heelclicker clutch kit on it for Christmas as I have heard that will really quicken acceleration without losing top end. For myself it seems plenty fast but my friends have 660 grizzlies and I want to be able to beat them in a race so hopefully that will be enough. So far I have had mine up to about 60 mph in high and 35 mph in low with both seeming like there was more there but I let off since I am just now getting to the end of my 10 hour break in period. I have had no belt problems at all. I did have a bolt head break off and sheer 3 of the 4 gears in the oil pump but I think that was just a freak deal that sometimes happens to any machine. I was told it did not cause any engine damage so I guess time will tell, but so far so good since I have had it back.

Thanks for clearing that up RINCON.

Lightman02,

Sorry. I guess I used the wrong terminology. I was just trying to get my point across. Low gear on a car was just my comparison to low range on the PVT. The PVT assembly itself does not have gears in it, however, the gearcase does. Since the low gear in the gear case is what allows the machine to go into low range, then there are still gears present.

I don't mean to make any enemies either. I just got frustrated for a moment and I was wrong for that. I would like to make an apology.
