Big Bear 400 or Expedition
#1
I am looking for a new ATV and was wondering if anyone has any opinions of the two different ATV's. I currently own a Yamaha Grizzly and I want sonething with a 5 speed transmission.
Any help would be greatly apreciated.

Your topic says big bear 400 or expedition. I am an owner of an expedition 425 cc 5 speed. I like it allot. It has been fun to drive. It has already
given me many hours of pleasure. I use it to tow my canoe, to remote lakes in the summer. I explore
new areas in the summer as well. I used it grouse hunting all last fall. I used it ice fishing last winter. Its an alright polaris machine.

BigDogs,
I see your getting a few responses from the Xpedition owners. I too have one, and can tell you it shifts as well as any quad I have ridden. If there's a better one out there I haven't found it. I haven't ridden the Big Bear, but I will be riding with a Big Bear SE 4x4 on Memorial Weekend. So if you can wait 2 months I'll give you a report. hehe He's an old guy though, so I don't know if I can give you a good comparison. Maybe if he doesn't see this I'll get to ride it.
Have fun with whatever you decide

Well BigDogs,
I can only tell you that I decided on a yamaha in 1998 to purchas a new 97 Red 350 Big Bear SE 4X4 vs Honda 300 4X4 same year. Mainly I didn't need a power machine for trailing. Mainly for snowplowing was the real reason. I like the reverse procedure and dual tranny setup. You see all I have to do is be in any forward gear HI or Low step on foot brake and shift into reverse and to go forward just shift back to HI or low and go. the honda you have to down shift to neutral push down the left down button squeeze brake handle and shift down to go back into reverse, then to go forward you start all over again 1st 2nd etc. This is tiresome when plowing snow with a 5 speed setup. Of course the automatic is a better way to go only one gear selector to use an the polaris has models that fit the bill if you like. Now today the Big Bear is a 400 which was last years old Kodiak setup and the I believe the 2000 model Kodiak is an automatic tranny only. I would like the Wolverine suspension with the heavier frame for utility that my Big Bear has for plowing. But until I can afford a another machine, I hope there will be a machine that has a mutiple of good features that each honda yamaha polaris. I hope I could help you out a bit . in addition I have added a warn winch, oxlite boot guards, heated grips, mier handguards, mirror, action pack box on rear rack. Future upgrade a brake light, mudrunners, front bag and antenna whip.
By the way is the expedition a shaft drive??
By the way Brian If you catch me some fish I'll let you ride the red bear,Oldguy!!
