Default Changing sp700 belt.

I was just wondering what the easiest way to change the main belt is on a sp700. I got the enclosure off, and I am ready to take the old belt off. I just don't want to stretch the new one when putting it on. Any input would be appreciated.

Apply the parking brake, on the secondary clutch twist the inner half clockwise as you push it toward the machines center. The belt will drop into the clutch and allow you to remove it from the secondary, install new belt the same way with the lettering on the belt so you can read it once installed.

Powerslider.

I can't seem to get the inner half to move. I put the atv in park or in high and applied the parking brake and neither seemed to work.

Your working against the spring pressure so it isn't real easy but it's do-able. You should be able to rotate the inner clutch half clockwise to seperate the buttons from the helix then push while keeping it in the rotated position, it should open up so the belt can drop down into the clutch and then you can pull the belt over the clutch opposite of where the belt dropped into the clutch.

Drive Belt Removal
1. Remove outer PVT cover
2. Mark drive belt direction of rotation so that it can be installed in the same direction. NOTE: Normally positioned so part numbers are easily
read.
3. To remove drive belt, apply brake, pull upward and rearward on belt to open driven clutch sheaves, pull out and down on belt to slip over the driven clutch outer sheave.

Drive Belt Installation

1. Loop belt over drive and over top of driven sheave.
2. While pushing down on top of belt, turn the back or moveable driven sheave clockwise.
3. The belt then should be able to be pushed down into and between the sheaves.
NOTE: Be sure to position belt so part number is easily read.

At least that is what the service manual says.

I didn't "need" a new belt, I just got some water in there and I decided to change it. I am going to use the old one for a spare. I would never say that my 700 is junk. I had a sp500 before and I like that, but it is no comparison to the 700. It is by far the best atv I have ever ridden.

Anyway, thanks for all your help.

And Handabige, thanks for your useless input also.
