What footwear to ride my Predator
#1
I'm new to sport bikes. So new, that I won't even have one till next week. I've ridden a Scrambler for the last year, so boots or tennis shoes or whatever just about were ok. What about riding a sport bike? I'd really rather not have to wear those riding boots, to me they don't look very comfortable. But are they a necessity?
Any opinions?

lets put it this way.........is it neccisary? no...do you want to come out of an accident with more chances of surviving? the boots/gloves are made for a reason....the gloves mainly so when you fall, you dont rip the flesh off of ur hands...the boots same reason and not to break ur ankle...leathers are a good thing to, pants and jacket...so when you fall, you doing get road rash...your choice, but wearing full gear is the best thing you can do.

I wear riding boots on my scrambler, and if I were to ride a footpeged machine, I can see them as being even more beneficial. I was suprised, but riding boots are very comfortable and quite flexible while giving you ankle support and reassurance at the same time. Also mostly water proof unless you're knee deep in a pond! There are some very resonable boots out there. I wear O'neal M-890, but I think the cheapest is by A.R.C. for $80 in rocky mountain atv catalog.

02 scrambler 400 X 4x4, K&N, Works struts (wanting to sell, let me know if you're interested!)

I think Thor T20's are by far the bast bang for the buck $119. Fox has very good products too their Tracker boots are $120 and great budget boot. If you damage Fox boots they will either replace or fix them for free. If money isn't an option I'd go with SIDI or Alpinestars.

I really appreciate all the responses guys. I'm not cheap or stupid. Just trying to decide if it's a worthwhile expense. I would never even consider buying them to ride my Scrambler. But being new to sport bikes, and riding on pegs, I thought I would ask the experts.
I've looked at the Alpinsestars. They seem to range from 120 to 300. Is the 300 dollar ones that much better, or would something in between be just as good?
Thanks

400x,
With the more expensive boots, you get a better grain of leather that is waterproof out of the box. No need to silicone or mink oil them to keep your tootsies dry. They offer better support than the cheaper ones (a good thing if you DON'T get nerf bars) and generally tend to last longer than 2 or 3 pairs of the cheap boots. Kind of like a good helmet, you have to as yourself a question: How much are your feet worth to you?

I like to wear hiking boots because I like to get off my quad and walk around, do a little exploring. Climbing around abandoned mine shafts in full MX riding boots would be suicidal. MX boots are designed to protect dirtbike riders who are putting their feet down all the time. But walking in them sucks.
A set of nerf bars will keep debris from flying up at you while riding, and with a pair of decent hiking boots you have all the protection you need for less money, with more comfort.

What do you think Mike Chero? You've given me good advice in the past.
