Not sure what exactly you are explaining.
Sometimes when you disengage the AWD, one of the hubs will remain engaged causing it to pull to one side.
It should eventually disengage, and can be helped by simply backing up for a moment.
It is usually noticed by pulling to one side, as though one tire were flat, rather than "hard to turn" as you say.

It is very hard to turn to the left - you have to really muscle it. Even then it wants to straighten out. Turns to the right just fine. I tried backing up to make sure the AWD was disengage. I don't think thats the problem, I have a 500 and have had to back up. This has a different feel, it feels like something is pulling it (the handlebars) straight

Im not excactly a quad expert but it should have grease zerts in the front end on the a-arms and steering stem. I know that my trailblazer does and my 98 warrior did too. My warrior got real tight to turn and was doing kinda what your buddies scrammy is doin, so I greased the bearing and seals via the 1000 zerts and cleared it up. Just my .02 hope i helped

It may need a wheel allignment. Check the operators manual for instructions on how to check it. Also, the strut on the left front may have something wrong with it as it is supposed to rotate when you turn the wheel and the spring could be hanging up somewhere and won't allow things to turn freely. Hence the spring will coil up and try to force the bars back straight again.
