scrambler tire question

hello
i cannot find a tire that i like for my 2002 scrambler 500 4x4 . i want to put 589 m/s on it but they dont offer them in the 2 different sizes. i was looking and there are 25 inch tires on the explorers and can the rear sprocket be changed on my scrambler from the stock 36 t to the 42 t on the explorer so i can run the same size tires on the front and rear. also has anyone run 25 inch tires on a scrambler and how gutless does it make it . any info would help . thanks

You can't change teeth on a 4x4 well you can if all you do is ride in 2x4 but who does that, in your case the back wheels would be draging. It will be pretty much gutless stock. But EPI offers a clutch kit that gears it down to compensate the larger tires then you could gear down without changing the sprockets.

Sorry I completly miss understood your question. Your saying stock tires are different size front and rear so can I change sprockets to make it turn equally with the same size tires. The stock tires are Front: 23x7x10 and Rear: 22x11x10 correct. So if you put the same size front and rear (26") while in 4x4 the rear would be wanting to turn faster this case you would want to go up a tooth on the sprocket. My dealer told me that two teeth are equal to 1 inch in tires. That would mean you would want to run a 38t to make turn equally with the same height tires front/rear.

I run 22's on the front and back. All this does is cause the 4WD to engage a little later than stock, but it still engages so fast you will never notice the difference.
If you're going to bigger tires, you'll want to change the primary spring and weights to compensate.

Yeah I thought it's only 1" difference in front-back it couldn't do "that" much if he puts the same size front-back. EPI makes a Bigfoot clutch kit just for this, or go the cheap way and do what KevinM said.

I'm not positive, but if you run 25" on the back, and 26" on the front, would you be able to get away with it without having 4wd or scrubbing tire problems? It kind of makes sense to me that if your stock difference is 1" between front and rear with 22" and 23" tires, you should be able to do the same with bigger tires if you keep the difference to 1". I don't know, I am just throwing that idea out there. I just went with wider tires on my old Scrambler with Bearclaws as I was worried about the same problems.

all you would have to do is keep the 1" difference but i think the big problem is tire clearance, gearing its not geared low enough for that size tires i guess you could try the bigfoot kit. and i don't think the belt could hold up to that much stress

no i want to run 25's on the front and rear . that is what the explorer's have on the front and rear . the only thing besides not haveing low range on my scrambler is the rear sprockets are different. would like a little more ground clearence and a better selection of tires.
