Looking, you woudnt believe how easy it is to total an ATV or a motorcycle. To build one from scratch would cost 10 times as much as a new one using OEM parts. When something is wrecked, the insurance uses OEM parts to get a repair estimate. If you ever bought a part from a dealer, you know how it can happen so easily. Of course the age and value of the machine has alot to do with it to. One good roll down a hill or mild crash can send it to the bone yard. Bubba

"How do you total an atv?"
Alot easier than you'd think! My buddy did $3400 damage to his brand-new Foreman, he basically split the thing into two pieces! He was sliding into a tree in deep snow, and barely hit it with his left rear wheel as he drove past it. He must have hit the sweet spot, because he shattered the transmission shaft, totaly bending the frame, suspension, etc. He wasn't going very fast at the time of impact either, probably 10-15 MPH.
I called my insurance agent first thing the next week to make sure that my machine was covered for such an accident.
My first atv was stole out of my pickup truck, parked in my driveway, at 9:30 pm. I was in my living room, 15 feet away, and didn't hear a thing. It had 30 miles on it. Thankfully it was insured. When I bought my new SP600, I made sure it was insured BEFORE I picked it up from the dealer, in case I got into a car accident on the way home from the dealer.
BTW, State farm quoted me $270/yr for the SP600. I went with American Family for $150/yr with $250 deduct.

Went up a hill (STEEP) and hit a rut at the top which sent the front end up and over causing the machine to roll end over end three times down the hill. The throttle broke on the way down to the full throttle position and the machine took off at the base of the hill (it landed on it's wheels) and hit a 24" pine tree after a 25' run. $5800 in damage. I purchased a new Sportsman ($6400) with $200 left from the insurance pay off ($6600).
BUY THE INSUANCE! It is too cheap not to have.

WEEKEND WARRIOR,
IT IMPORTANT TO INSURE FOR THEFT AND DAMAGE, HOWEVER THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS THE PROPERTY DAMAGE AND LIABILITY.
FOR EXAMPLE, IF YOU CRASH YOUR ATV INTO SOMEONES PROPERTY YOU COULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR $1000'S. WORST CASE SCENARIO, A CHILD RUNS OUT IN FRONT OF YOU OR IF SOMEONE ELSE CRASHES INTO YOU WITH THEIR ATV OR CAR. THE INSURANCE COMPANY WILL PROTECT YOU IN COURT IF NECESSARY AND YOU COVERED IF YOU LOSE. DON'T GET THE CHEAPEST POLICY GET THE BEST ONE.

I agree with everyone else. Get the insurance. I know that me and my riding fella's feel a lot more comfortable trail riding and hill climbing knowing that we are covered just in case. It will allow you to discover the true potential of your machine without having to have any second thoughts.
