thumb throttle

has any one ever broken their thumb throttle?
i got thrown foward after hitting a deeper(much deeper) than expected mud puddle and broke mine .the dealer had a throttle assembly in stock for about $80. i looked at the yamahas and hondas and their levers are metal. is there a replacement available that will have the plug for the 4wd controls that is made of metal where its not so flimsy?
thanks

i asked the dealer if you could buy just the lever itself and aparently its not available that way. the lever is all plastic (lever and stem(which is one piece))and the housing is called etc is all plastic also.
when my knee came up to stop myself from going over the handlebars it clipped the throttle upward and snapped the bottom part of the lever off flush with the etc box.
im going to put a bolt up through the old stem and hole the lever in along with some epoxy.this should make a spare. i was hoping to find a assembly made completely of metal to avoid this in the future. i tried salvaging an assembly off a 600griz but it wasnt close enough to where i would want to bastardize my polaris
the thought occured to me, that if the dealer had one in stock, that someone else had to of broken their lever also and might know a better solution than paying $80 bucks for something that sould have been a $6 dollar fix.

My friend broke the throttle lever off of his Honda 300 doing wheelies. He flipped the quad over and snap! His fix?..well, he never fixed it. Its been broken for over a year and just sitting there in his garage.

THE SAME THING HAS HAPPENED TO ME. I WAS TO STUBBORN TO PAY THE EIGHTY BUCKS. BEING GOOD WITH METALS,I MADE A THUMB ASSEMBLY IN ABOUT AN HOUR. EIGHTY BUCKS FOR AN HOUR OF MY TIME IS NOT BAD. THE SHAFT HAS TO BE TAPERED,DRILLED,AND SPLINES CUT. BUT THE DEALER SAID IT COULD NOT BE DONE.THAT WAS TWO YEARS AGO. EVERYTHING OK
